    • 5 km from Montignac-Lascaux on the D706 towards Les Eyzies, the Château de Losse classified “Historic Monument” dominates the Vézère. Enclosed in walls bordered by deep moats, the medieval fortress gave way in 1576 to an elegant pleasure castle. It is accessed by the fortified châtelet, one of the largest defensive works of its kind in the south of France. Renaissance architecture here asserts its elegance. The remarkable decor and the precious 16th and 17th century furniture that adorn the apartments evoke the living environment of John II de Losse, tutor to Henri IV and governor of Guyenne during the reigns of the later Valois and the early Bourbons.
The gardens classified and labeled “Remarkable Gardens” offer an enchanting route around the castle. Picnic garden furniture and tea room are located in the Princess Garden.

Small chateau but beautifully renovated. Lovely guide and guided tour (although only in french) but you have an English pamphlet which makes it easy enough to follow along.
