    • Monbazillac Castle: a dynamic, immersive, and fun experience

Overlooking the Dordogne Valley, just 10 minutes from Bergerac, the Château de Monbazillac estate invites visitors to discover its new tour. It explores both the prized wines of Monbazillac and the history of the château within its Périgord context.

The 16th-century castle, a listed historical monument, blends the past with modernity in its visitor experience through the use of new technologies. The visit has become dynamic, collaborative, immersive, and fun thanks to videos, audio, light shows, puzzles, mapping, and animations.
Stroll through the exhibitions, taste the wines of Monbazillac and be surprised, amazed, seduced ! An unforgettable journey awaits you.

To pique the curiosity of visitors, four distinct areas have been highlighted:

The castle offers a self-guided and immersive tour that will take the visitor from the Wars of Religion to the Revolution, following in the footsteps of the Bacalan family.

      • A first exhibition: "Monbazillac, at the heart of the Protestant revolts"

This first exhibition traces part of the history of Bergerac, a past and present stronghold of Protestantism, and highlights the links between Monbazillac wines and the Protestant past of the territory.

      • A second exhibition, "The Bacalan Revolution"

In this second exhibition, five fully interactive rooms immerse visitors in what life might have been like for the Bacalan family at the Château through an experiential journey. On August 28, 1791, shortly after the king's arrest, in the midst of the Revolution, the Bacalan family returned to the Monbazillac estate. François-Hilaire de Bacalan and Marthe Valleton de Boissière reunited for lunch with their children. It is through this original reconstruction of life at the château in the late 18th century that visitors explore the private world of a family.

Upon leaving the castle, the park offers a place for leisurely strolls.

Nestled between a sea of vineyards and offering breathtaking views of the Bergerac valley, the park provides a calm and peaceful environment that invites contemplation. It's the perfect time to live in the present, slow down, stop for a meal under the leafy canopy of the restaurant terrace, daydream on the provided sun loungers, and allow photography enthusiasts to indulge their art against a stunning panorama.

The Bergerac vineyards and their groves unfold like an Impressionist painting in the valley where a river lies dormant, which was once the valuable waterway for the wine trade.

The castle offers more than just a tourist route; it invites you to experience the art of living and being in Périgord. It's a moment for yourself, to wander around the castle, soak up the atmosphere, feel the sun browning the vines, or the rain bringing forth the precious Botrytis cinerea.

The staff were very pleasant from start to finish. The tour price was very reasonable considering what was included. The shop offered a wide selection. Highly recommended.

This place is fantastic to learn about wine making. That skill is oriented in a very accessible way in the exposition centre. 40 wine growers in the region formed a cooperative decades ago, present their skills but also own the castle itself. A very nice place and I learned more about grape growing and harvesting, and wine making, than ever before

Did the three-wine tasting experience with the red, rose and dessert wines. Good amount of wine. However, did find it a little hard to clarify which wines we had tasted in the shop (some of the staff...
