⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I recently had the honor of visiting Château Barrière, and it was an unforgettable experience. The château's historic charm and the serene surroundings create a truly magical atmosphere. The partially ruined architecture adds a touch of mystery and romance, making it a perfect spot for photography enthusiasts. The staff was incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable, enhancing our visit with fascinating stories about the château's past. I highly recommend a visit to Château Barrière for anyone interested in history, architecture, and photography. Five stars!

I really enjoyed Château Barrière, sometimes I find the ruined chateaus more intriguing than the intact ones. We walked here from the centre of Perigueux, which wasn't too taxing (I did it in flip flops on a swollen ankle). It's free to look around and there was only one other couple there when we went at 4pm (weekday visit). You can't go in it for safety reasons but there are empty windows you can look through and benches to sit on (cafe across the road if you want a coffee) so I sat and sketched for a while. Nice and peaceful. If you get a map from the Tourist Information office it shows you what other bits you can see in the Gallo-Roman section of the town. There is a red route on the floor that you can follow from one to the next but if you're short on time I recommend the map too (it's free) so you can choose which bits you want to see most if you can't do them all.

Ruins of a family chateau. One can tell it was quite large and most likely very nice. Destroyed during the Religious Wars, I found it interesting that the home next to it was not damaged.
