Discover the secrets ...

Forget the classic guided tours! In Périgueux, exploring the city takes on the feel of a real photographic treasure hunt. Destination Périgueux recently challenged the Périgord Guide: take part in its new summer activity, "Mystery Photo Objective".

Between a stroll through the city and a hunt for unusual details, this activity reinvents the discovery of Périgord heritage. Grab your phone and sneakers and set off with us!

Mystery Photo Lens: What is it?

This urban treasure hunt is designed to sharpen your gaze and discover the city in a completely new way.

The principle is simple: explore the streets of Périgueux in search of hidden details, guided by riddles and mystery photos.

This activity piques your curiosity while you discover or rediscover the city. The most daring aspect is the fun and interactive side of the experience.

The adventure is for everyone : with puzzles suitable for adults and others designed especially for younger children, it's the perfect activity for an outing with family, friends, or even solo for curious souls.

Preparation and running of the game

To embark on the "Mystery Photo Objective" adventure, the equipment is simple but essential. The game starts at the Destination Périgueux tourist office.

We are provided with:

  • A notebook filled with puzzles and photos.
  • A pencil – essential for taking notes and checking off discoveries.
  • The city map, a real compass for navigating the streets of Périgueux.

The activity is designed to last approximately 1.5 hours, an ideal amount of time to immerse yourself without feeling rushed.

It is also possible to do the route independently. With the summer heat, it can be nice to do it in the early evening, when the temperatures drop.

The main goal of this treasure hunt is to discover details that no one else sees. It's an invitation to look up and observe your surroundings with renewed attention. Every corner of the street is a potential clue. So, keep your eyes open!

Here's how this exciting urban treasure hunt unfolds:

  • Read the riddles and find the hidden places : Each stage begins with a riddle, cleverly formulated to guide us to a specific location in the city. This is the first key to moving forward.
  • Set out to find them in Périgueux : has the riddle been solved? Set out to explore the location indicated on the map. This is a great opportunity to stroll around and appreciate the architecture.
  • Take a photo of the entire location : Once you've identified the right location, you need to photograph it in its entirety. This step serves as validation before moving on to the next challenge.
  • Search for details in the mystery photo : here, visual acuity is put to the test! In the notebook, a close-up photo (often pixelated) of an ultra-specific detail of the place is provided. You then have to scrutinize the monument, the facade, or the element found to unearth this small detail, often unusual and easy to miss.
  • Take on bonus challenges : For the more persistent or those who want to prolong the fun, bonus challenges are offered. They add an extra layer of discovery and reflection, rewarding the spirit of exploration.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it...

What makes "Mystery Photo Goal" so captivating is the well-thought-out structure of each mission, which combines challenge, discovery, and fun for all ages.

  • Each stage of the game begins with a riddle for adults. These are cleverly designed, sometimes a little tricky. They combine historical clues, wordplay, and subtle geographical descriptions that require a good deal of observation and thought to locate the correct location.
  • Just below, there is a riddle for the little ones, accompanied by several clear and fun explanations. This is a particularly appreciated aspect, because it makes the activity really accessible to families. Children can thus actively participate and learn without even realizing it.
  • The notebook also includes a few lines of personal notes for each mission. It's a detail that makes all the difference! Jot down your initial ideas, your impressions, or even make quick sketches. It's a way to make the adventure even more personal and memorable.
  • The thrilling heart of the game lies in finding a photo of a detail. After identifying the location using the riddle, the real challenge begins: finding the tiny fragment illustrated in the mystery photo. Whether it's a hidden bas-relief, a discreet gargoyle, or an unusual architectural element, the satisfaction of unearthing this detail is immense. You feel like a detective , with a sharp eye and proud of your find.
  • And to complete this experience, the notebook provides a helping hand for each mission. If, despite everything, you still can't find it, detailed explanations about the location are found at the end of the notebook. It's the icing on the cake!

In addition to the game, you learn historical anecdotes, interesting facts about the architecture or the past function of the building. This adds a valuable cultural dimension, transforming each solved riddle into a real local history lesson.

The undeniable advantages of Objectif Photo Mystère

"Mystery Photo Objective" really stands out from the usual tourist experiences. It is above all an original discovery of Périgueux, which takes us well beyond the classic itineraries. Far from the passive guided tour, this activity invites you to explore the city from a new angle, revealing details that you would otherwise ignore. We don't just look, we search, we find, which makes the walk infinitely more engaging.

  • Interactivity and engagement are at the heart of this experience. It's not about listening to a guide, but rather being the actor of your own exploration. Solving puzzles, searching for places, and especially the meticulous search for details require constant active participation . A simple walk becomes a real quest.
  • By design, the activity has a great family feel. The different levels of puzzles allow both adults and children to get fully involved, each at their own pace and according to their abilities. It's a great way to share some quality time, where the younger ones are stimulated and the older ones are amused by the challenge.
  • Finally, "Mystery Photo Objective" is a great exercise for the sense of observation. We develop a new way of looking at the city, paying attention to the smallest corners, the architectural ornaments, the particularities that make Périgueux so charming. This fun learning experience is particularly enjoyable: we assimilate knowledge about heritage and local history in an entertaining and memorable way, without ever having the impression of being in a class.

Our practical advice

To fully enjoy this adventure, here are some tips from the Périgord Guide:

  • Wear comfortable shoes. You'll be walking and strolling through the streets of Périgueux, so you might as well be comfortable!
  • Make sure you have a fully charged phone. Not only to immortalize your discoveries with photos, but also in case you need an extra map or a digital boost (although the provided map is very effective).
  • Pay attention and take your time. The pleasure of the activity lies as much in the search as in the discovery. Scrutinize the facades, look up, and let yourself be surprised by the details.

So, are you ready to sharpen your gaze and reveal the well-kept secrets of Périgueux?

The photos have been arranged in a completely random order so as not to spoil the activity for you! ;)
