    • World Heritage Site (1998) as a major stage on the Way of St. James (Vézelay route).

Unique in its Greek cross plan , similar to St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, with a dome at its center and each arm. Restored in the 19th century by Abadie, who used it as a model for the construction of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica in Montmartre.

The 12th-century bell tower separates the old Latin church from the Byzantine-inspired basilica. Inside, there is a magnificent Baroque altarpiece and the chandelier that graced the wedding of Napoleon III and Eugénie de Montjo at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.

The cathedral is open to the public every day from 9 am to 6 pm (7 pm in summer), and a paid visitor guide is available inside. Guided tours are also available as part of the group tours offered by the Greater Périgueux Tourist Office, year-round by reservation.

This is the largest church in town, so we had to go here, even though we were in town for only a short while. Sufficiently decorative and historic, worth a short visit, which is what we did.
