Directions Abbaye de Boschaud - Cistercian Abbey of Boschaud and heritage of Périgord

About

  • English
    • The Cistercian abbey of Boschaud owes its name to the topography of the site: "Bosco cavo" means "hollow wood" or "wooded valley" in Latin. Founded in the 12th century and partially destroyed during the Wars of Religion, the abbey combines the core Cistercian principles with a style typical of the Périgord region, the single nave of the church being vaulted with a series of domes on pendentives. Rediscovered in the 19th century, the remains of the convent buildings are imbued with spirituality.

Self-guided tour with the help of explanatory panels detailing the history of the site.
