Chancelade Abbey Romanesque remains and sacred art to discover in a group in the heart of the Périgord Blanc

Founded in 1133 under the rule of Saint Augustine, it was built of white stone from the surrounding quarries. The abbey church is surmounted by a square bell tower on its dome. It features a superb "Christ Mocked," attributed to Van Honthorst, and walnut choir stalls.

Under the protection of the bishops of Périgueux and the Holy See, it quickly prospered and enjoyed great privileges before falling into English hands during the Hundred Years' War. After periods of decline, the abbey regained its lost prosperity under Abbot Alain de Solminihac. During the French Revolution, it became national property.

• Self-guided visits : subject to unavailability of the premises for religious services (funerals, weddings, etc.), the abbey church and the Saint John chapel are open from 8:30 am to 7:30 pm with some restrictions: the abbey church is not open for visits on Sunday mornings (Sunday mass).
• Saint John Chapel : No visits daily from 5:45 pm to 7:30 pm (Adoration, Mass, Vespers), no visits Saturday mornings, no visits Sunday mornings in case of worship
