The fortified house of Reignac is a listed historical monument, protected for its exceptional and unique architecture. Excavations have been carried out on the site, uncovering 20,000 years of history. The museum displays trace the chronology of the site from its origins to the present day. From prehistoric humans to the Lords of Reignac, their families, and household staff, you will gain insight into the lifestyles of the inhabitants of the fortified house!

Visitor's Guide : There are no guided tours at the Reignac Fortified House. Everything is self-guided, without reservation or waiting ! Perfect for the whole family. A children's visitor's guide is available at reception with games to spark their curiosity.

A castle designed for protection and defense

You can see it from the road, its facade is on display to the visitor, but the interior remains a secret until you step inside! Much larger inside than the exterior suggests, the fortified house of Reignac astonishes and surprises!

Excavations suggest that the first troglodytic dwelling established on the Reignac cliff dates back to the Iron Age, 750 BC. Structures still visible on the rock face suggest the layout of the houses, built against the cliff. It was during the Middle Ages that the cliff experienced its most significant period of occupation; it was fortified and became a veritable eagle's nest, probably never attacked due to its formidable deterrent effect!
