    • The fortified house of Reignac, a noble troglodytic stronghold in the Vézère Valley

Listed as a historical monument, the Maison Forte de Reignac is a fortified house, meaning a semi-troglodytic dwelling. Built against the cliff, it's a strange and somewhat mystical place that you'll enjoy visiting if you appreciate unusual architecture, historical reconstructions, and places steeped in history!

Visit a troglodyte castle between Montignac-Lascaux and Les Eyzies

Preserved in exceptional condition since the 14th century and fully furnished with period pieces, the Maison Forte de Reignac is in France the only monument of this troglodytic type to have reached us completely intact.
Of rare historical interest, this noble residence is infinitely larger than one could suspect from the outside. Behind the facade lie impressive underground and above-ground rooms : Great Hall of Honor, armory, Hall of Great Men, kitchen, chapel, bedrooms, dungeon…
At the end of the visit, an internationally renowned exhibition on the theme of "torture in the Middle Ages" is offered to you at no extra cost.

A visit like a journey into the past

The tour begins in the kitchen, where a fire crackles in the hearth. It's a place steeped in history, where the footsteps of past inhabitants still seem to echo. A first troglodytic room, like a cave entirely built into the cliff, houses a small museum of artifacts and remains discovered at the Reignac excavation site. The tour continues in the cliffside castle, comprising several rooms on two floors and a rooftop terrace. Information panels allow visitors to immerse themselves in the daily lives of Reignac's inhabitants throughout history.

Nighttime tours of the Reignac Fortified House

The Reignac Castle offers nighttime tours. One evening a week, come and discover the clifftop castle after dark, with a unique soundscape and the mystical presence of an entity at your side… a singular experience not to be missed, if you enjoy thrills … of pleasure! Visit the Reignac Castle website for more details.
