    • SAINT-CHRISTOPHE CASTLING Fort and troglodyte city, huge cliff located between Les EYZIES and MONTIGNAC-LASCAUX occupied from prehistory to the Renaissance, there you will discover the mode of habitat of our ancestors.

Remarkable for its powerful forms, its number of habitats and its age of occupation by man, this site constitutes a setting of rare and wild beauty. This veritable wall of limestone, one kilometer long and eighty meters high, constantly undermined by the river and the frost, has carved out a hundred rock shelters and long aerial terraces. These natural cavities were occupied by man from prehistoric times, then modified in the Middle Ages, to become a fort and a troglodyte city until the beginning of the Renaissance.

The visit of the site allows to understand the mode of installation of the troglodyte dwellings.

There you will discover the imprint left by our ancestors on the rock as well as a conservatory of civil engineering machinery which has been reconstituted in homage to the great medieval builders.

A great place to visit. Informative, historic, amazing. Great for Family and enough to hold your interest without getting tedious. Absolutely astonishing that large numbers of people lived, worked and died here. The tour is at your own pace and information boards are in French and English. The ticket and information centre have all you need and there's a good restaurant at the bottom. Be amazed.

Amazing place steeped in history. Very educational & fantastic experience. Allow enough time to take it all in. All information signs in French, English & German. The video is in French & subtitled in English although very fast & difficult to follow for this reason - sit up close if you can.

This cliffside site offered a fabulous afternoon out. The views across the Vezere valley were worth the trip alone, but the history (the site is believed to have been occupied from 55,000 years ago...

We went here with the kids because I used to go here with my grandparents when I was a kid. It is ok, but not a wow experience. I would say a nice 1.5 hour add-on to visiting Les Eyzies and the...
