    • Brother and sister, we created the Òrt distillery, “garden” in Occitan, in Montignac-Lascaux on our grandparents’ old farm.

It was in 2019, when Loïs was a master gin distiller in England and Nolwenn was writing her thesis on the protection of agricultural soils that we began to dream of a new page in the history of this farm. In July 2021, some renovation work and hundreds of aromatic plants later, our distillery offered its first nectars made in Périgord.

The challenge for us was to continue the agricultural activity of this small farm which had been inactive for around ten years.

Our grandparents used to raise sheep and harvest walnuts there. We still harvest the walnuts from these rustic walnut trees to make our recipes.

We are committed to creating spirits that are tastefully bold and have a low environmental impact. They are distilled from aromatic plants grown on site using organic farming methods. A unique feature in France: our still heats using solar energy!

Around the distillery, we have a magnificent space to grow the aromatic plants that go into the composition of our spirits (lemon thyme, rosemary, lavender, juniper, hyssop, caraway, chamomile, angelica, etc.). The crops are labeled organic farming. We have adopted no-till techniques and permanent beds to promote biodiversity. Our gardens have a total surface area of approximately 3,500 square meters.

Inspired by the tradition of traveling distillers, the recipes for our spirits are a tribute to the scents of Périgord throughout the seasons: the sweet smell of the earth in summer, the herbaceous freshness of wild thyme or the spiciness of juniper.

We will be delighted to welcome you to the distillery to present our work and let you taste our spirits.

You will be able to discover Gin and Pastis from our gardens.

Composed of a selection of 12 plants and spices, the Gin de nos jardins takes you on a journey through our gardens on the causses of Périgord. Aromatics such as thyme, rosemary, oregano, lavender and juniper are grown organically on our farm. Pink pepper, cardamom and citrus fruits come from organic farming sectors.

The gourmet recipe for Pastis from our gardens gives pride of place to plants from our gardens: hyssop, chamomile, verbena, lavender, ... spices and a spoonful of Périgord honey, which gives it a magnificent golden color.

We also offer limited editions, such as the comforting Winter Gin, the recipe of which changes every year depending on the harvest.

In 2024, we are releasing a new product: Picadis – Le Vermouth de nos jardins. We created it in collaboration with Domaine Combrillac and their Rosette wine. The Rosette appellation, located in the Bergerac vineyard, is one of the smallest French appellations with 25 ha in total. We have worked this sweet wine with the bitterness of yarrow, lemon, mugwort and gentian. The bitterness is counterbalanced by the deliciousness of fresh raspberry and honey. It can be enjoyed neat on ice, in a cocktail or as a vermouth tonic for a fresh and summery cocktail !

Free visit – tasting all year round (by appointment from September to June and from Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from July to September)

Tasting notes of Gin from our Gardens

      • Nose: First sensation: a cloud of iced lemon, followed by thyme and oregano on a mattress of juniper, then notes of lavender and grapefruit. You will also find sweet notes of orange blossom and a hint of green pepper.
      • Palate: A fore-palate of juniper and lime that opens the palate to spring flowers, fresh grass, lavender candy. The gin has a velvety texture on the palate.
      • Aftertaste: The experience ends with the voluptuousness of freshly cut rosemary.

Through my works council (and via the icipresent website), I ordered a bottle of gin from the Ort distillery. As a gin enthusiast, I thought it might be a great discovery, and it was! Wow! Ultra-fast delivery (in 3 days!), very well packaged, and what a lovely surprise to find a personalized note that came with the bottle (with a pretty label, no less). I'm absolutely thrilled!! I think you've just gained a new customer! Don't change a thing!

A wonderful discovery of a gin served at the Michelin-starred restaurant Le Petit Léon. We had a wonderful time tasting it on site.
