Grand Périgueux Tourist Office - Sainte-Alvère Tourist Information Office Visit Sainte Alvère, quality truffles in the heart of the Périgord Noir

The Sainte-Alvère region, the historical stronghold of the Lostanges family, forms the westernmost tip of the Périgord Noir. It is a very hilly area, whose limestone slopes are the domain of truffles. Until around the 1960s, the region was a major truffle producer. For nearly 30 years, the Sainte-Alvère market has offered its many buyers truffles of controlled quality, inspected by quality control officers.

In order to enhance this heritage, an interpretive trail, accompanied by a permanent exhibition at the information office of the Grand Périgueux Tourist Office in Sainte-Alvère, has been created and introduces the general public to the discovery of the "black diamond".

This permanent exhibition concerns the Black Truffle of Périgord, an emblematic product of Sainte-Alvère tells you about its history, its harvest, its preparation and its sale at the Sainte-Alvère Market. A shop is available for you to purchase souvenirs and truffle products, and a ticket service is also offered.
