Medieval town of Sainte-Alvère Sainte Alvère, truffle market and heritage of Périgord

The Sainte-Alvère region, a historic stronghold of the Lostanges, constitutes the western tip of the Périgord Noir. It is a very hilly region whose most calcareous hillsides are the domain of the truffle. Until around the 1960s, the region was a major producer of truffles. For nearly 30 years, the Sainte-Alvère market has offered its many buyers a quality truffle controlled by quality commissioners.

In order to promote this rich heritage, an interpretation trail, accompanied by a permanent exhibition at the Sainte-Alvère tourist office, has been created and introduces the general public to the discovery of the "black diamond".
