Le Bugue and its Market, a gourmet tour not to be missed

Le Bugue and its Mark ...

Following the banks of the Vézère, you can stop at the village of Le Bugue. Nestled downstream from the Vallée de l'Homme, Le Bugue is ideally located, in the center of the department and almost equidistant from Périgueux, Sarlat and Bergerac. Follow the Périgord guide in this pretty village and take the opportunity to visit the market.

Le Bugue, a friendly market to stroll around

The ideal is to park in one of the car parks outside the town centre so you can cross the bridge to arrive at the town hall square. Today is Tuesday and it's market day. The Bugue market is very famous and offers its visitors many good local products ! Bakers, cheesemakers, market gardeners... The good smells dissipate in the aisles and make your taste buds want to leave with a little gourmet basket !

The atmosphere in Le Bugue is very friendly. Everyone knows each other, the merchants chat with visitors, and they don't hesitate to let you taste all of their products. It's a real pleasure to stroll around. You can even have a drink on the terrace while admiring the Vézère and the few canoes passing by.

Our favorite? The Boutique Foie Gras Grolière, a family business that has been passionate about Périgord haute cuisine for 65 years now. Located opposite the market on Place de l'Hôtel de Ville, it uses local ingredients labeled “Canard à Foie Gras du Sud-Ouest” (Southwestern Duck Foie Gras) or “Oies du Périgord” (Périgord Geese) to produce delicious foie gras, refined preserves, and even traditional ready-made meals. Step inside this 100% local shop after a stroll around the market in the village of Le Bugue.

Le Bugue, a pleasant visit to do on foot

Then, head towards Vieux Bugue via Rue de Paris and then Grand Rue. Old medieval houses echo the contemporary ones, the streets are quiet, sometimes narrow, but very well exposed. There are a few restaurants and various shops, mostly focused on clothing or decoration.

Le Bugue, a sweet way of life

Going back down to Rue de Paris, you will find the market focused on non-food items: soap, clothing, hats, etc. And this continues right to the end of this main street. This is where you can see the Saint-Sulpice church. It is worth a short stop! Just behind it is the park, not very big but pleasant to stop for a moment. A bridge allows you to cross the Ladouch stream and reach the other part of the city center, towards Limeuil. There is a very good view of the back of the church, its imposing architecture reflected in the water. The water in the stream is very clean, ducks and carp live together and are fun to watch!

Le Bugue, a village in the heart of nature

Return to the town centre by taking the quays this time. Small waterfalls, interesting fauna and flora, you have to see everything during a walk in Le Bugue. The quays are pleasant because there are few cars passing, there is a very beautiful view of the calm and soothing river and they allow you to reach some of the major sites of this village: Le Bournat and the Périgord Noir aquarium. There is also a canoe base just opposite ( Les Canoës du Bournat ).

So, Le Bugue is a very dynamic, attractive and very well located village. It is impossible to get bored given the number of activities there are in and around the village: canoeing, hiking, chasm, castle... in short, all the charm and authenticity of the Périgord heritage is located nearby! There are lots of activities in the summer, the gourmet markets, for example, every Tuesday evening are very popular! It is a lively village, all year round, just waiting for you to come and visit!

Enjoy your trip to Le Bugue!
