    • The Bara-Bahau cave is a decorated cave from the Upper Palaeolithic. Located along the Vézère valley in the commune of Bugue in the Dordogne department in New Aquitaine, it measures approximately 100 meters.

It presents a geological interest, in particular by its eccentric concretions, and especially prehistoric, by the parietal engravings which it contains. It takes its name from a local Occitan onomatopoeia which means "badaboum" in reference to the collapsed blocks visible in the first room. Private property open to the public, it was classified as a historical monument in 1961.

Interesting cave with ancient carvings of animals. Our guide was enthusiastic, but could have moved things along a bit faster. We were the last round of the day and started 15 minutes after the appointed time. She was really nice.

The Grotte de Bara-Bahau is one of the best caves in the Dordogne area for it's price in my opinion. We took a tour with a guide (I'm not sure there is any other option) and he was friendly, funny and very knowledgeable. There are some interesting structures as well as some very interesting engravings made by ancient man.

We hadn’t heard of this cave before but thought we’d give it a go after seeing signs while in the area. I’m so glad we did as the tour was very good. It was done in French and English, which was helpful, and the information was really interesting. I’ve not seen cave bear scratchings before and it felt really special to be treading in the same area that these animals once were. It was wonderful to see the engravings too and to learn about how prehistoric humans used the claw marks to make their art. (It’s also a great value attraction!)
