MONTIGNAC-LASCAUX, LIGHTHOUS STATION OF BLACK PÉRIGORD:

Montignac-Lascaux is located in Dordogne, in the heart of Périgord Noir. The city is nestled upstream of the Vézère valley, so aptly named "Vallée de l'Homme". It is nestled at the foot of the Lascaux hill where LASCAUX - International Center for Parietal Art opened on December 15, 2016. Montignac-Lascaux is also halfway between Sarlat - the Dordogne valley and the “Capital of Prehistory”, Les Eyzies-de-Tayac. It is the golden triangle of the Périgord Noir. Remember that the Vézère valley is 400,000 years of human occupation, 15 sites which constitute 1 property listed as World Heritage by UNESCO. Many tourist sites with various themes are open to visitors: crystallization caves, deposits, troglodyte sites, shelters, decorated caves, theme parks, museums, castles, fortresses, gardens. Find the list of tourist sites in our "Vézère Valley Tourist Guide" and on our website www.lascaux-dordogne.com

      A LITTLE HISTORY:

Montignac-Lascaux has been occupied since the Paleolithic. Mother Prehistory has left us another legacy of the LASCAUX cave and Le Regourdou. Over the centuries, the city has grown on both sides of the Vézère river. The feudal castle, former haunt of the Counts of Périgord, dominates a maze of small medieval streets where we discover beautiful residences of the XIV, XV and XVIth centuries, houses on stilts and half-timbered, laundries and fountains. Montignac-Lascaux, was also the welcoming land of the writer Eugène Le Roy. In summer, tours of Montignac-Lascaux and the villages of the valley are organized. (by reservation).

      HIKING DESTINATION:

On foot, by bike, on horseback, by Segway, on the water and in the air
Montignac-Lascaux and the 26 towns and villages of the Community of Communes of the Vallée de l'Homme offer 675km of marked trails and a canvas 73 hikes in an authentic setting, unspoiled nature where the Vézère meanders between forests of oak and chestnut trees, dizzying hills and cliffs pierced by caves and natural shelters. A canoe descent or a paraglider flight offers even more unique viewing angles. Hiking cards, Guide Maps are on sale at the Tourist Office.

"Market" rhymes with conviviality, pleasure and discovery. MONTIGNAC-LASCAUX, every Wednesday and Saturday morning.

Night markets: In the summer, farmers' markets are set up in the village squares. They are a real festive invitation to meet farmers, breeders and craftsmen.
