LES EYZIES, WORLD CAPITAL OF PREHISTORY:

Les Eyzies is located in Dordogne, in the heart of the Périgord Noir. The city is nestled downstream from the Vézère valley, so aptly named "Vallée de l'Homme". The village of Les Eyzies is also halfway between Sarlat - the Dordogne valley and Montignac-Lascaux. It is the golden triangle of the Périgord Noir. Remember that the Vézère valley contains no less than 15 sites which constitute 1 property listed as World Heritage by UNESCO. It is here that prehistory was built as a science illustrated by the names of Peyrony, Lartet, Capitan, the abbots Breuil and Glory; here was discovered the Man of Cro-Magnon; here we find the world wonders of parietal art, including the last decorated polychrome cave open to the public : Font de Gaume. It is in Les Eyzies that the National Prehistory Museum is located, an absolute reference for the Upper Paleolithic and whose collections come largely from the sites and deposits of the Vézère Valley, so rich in its prehistory. The Prehistory Reception Center initiated by the PIP consolidates this system since 2010. Men have maintained an occupation here and developed activities through the ages; Paleolithic, Neolithic, Hundred Years War, development of agriculture, industrial period, "invention" of "prehistoric science", establishment of tourism... Finally, on the large natural terrace which dominates the center of the village, stands the famous statue of the Prehistoric Man by Paul Dardé, symbol of prehistory in Périgord.

Eyzies and the 26 towns and villages of the Community of Communes of the Valley of Man offer 675km of marked trails and a network of 73 hikes in an authentic setting, unspoiled nature where the Vézère meanders between forests of oak and chestnut trees, vertiginous hills and cliffs pierced by caves and natural shelters. A canoe descent or a paraglider flight offers even more unique viewing angles. Hiking cards, Guide Maps are on sale at the Tourist Office.

HALTE GOURMANDE
Like Montignac, Les Eyzies is rocked by the rolling of the Vézère that runs along it. In summer, the quays come alive, the terraces of bars and restaurants fill up. Markets and festivities take over the place.

Traditional markets: All year round, our towns and villages live at the time of the weekly markets on Monday morning and in season only. The market is the place of predilection for the purchase of local products; Strawberries, melons, chestnuts, porcini mushrooms, foie gras, truffles, honey, nuts, cheeses, fatty poultry… fill the stalls according to the seasons. "Market" rhymes with conviviality, pleasures and discovery.

Night markets: In summer, farmers' markets are set up in the village square. They are a real festive invitation to meet farmers, breeders and artisans. From stand to stand, the plates are made up and the glasses are filled to the taste of each. The sale is always accompanied by a tasting and very often by musical entertainment.
