World Heritage of Humanity (1998) as a major stopover on the way to Santiago de Compostela (Vézelay route).
Unique in its oriental plan with a Greek cross similar to St Mark's in Venice , whose center and each branch are surmounted by a dome. Restored in the 19th century by Abadie who used it as a model for the construction of the Sacred Heart in Montmartre.
The 12th century bell tower separates the old Latin church from the Byzantine-inspired basilica. Inside, a magnificent baroque altarpiece and the chandelier which saw the marriage of Napoleon III with Eugénie de Montjo at Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral.
The cathedral is open to the public every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (7 p.m. in summer), a paid visit support is available inside. It is also possible to visit it with a tour guide, as part of guided group tours or urban walks offered by the Tourist Office of Grand Périgueux, throughout the year by reservation.
