The first gourmet market of the season begins in Saint-Cyprien, about ten kilometers from Le Bugue. The Périgord Guide has decided to introduce you to this world that combines village festivals and gourmet delicacies !

Saint-Cyprien gourmet market

Saint-Cyprien, a charming village to visit

The festivities begin at 7 p.m. Are you early? Take the opportunity to take a little tour of the village. Saint-Cyprien is a typical Périgord village with its yellow stone houses, flowers on the balconies and a few wooden lintels above the doors! Its church, somewhat fortified, dominates the landscape. It is quite imposing, especially up close, you almost feel very small...

As you head back down to the crossing, music echoes in the distance! You're on the right road! Shops are set up on both sides of the track, and there are also a few restaurants and brasseries ! The traffic isn't heavy; Saint-Cyprien is quite quiet!

Saint-Cyprien, a gourmet market where you can feast

The gourmet market stalls finally appear, located on Place Sadouillet Perrin. It takes place every Thursday evening in July and August ! The vendors are setting up, testing their products a little as they go! The streets are closed to traffic for your safety. The first visitors, curious or gourmet, arrive to sit at the large tables made available to you!

The market isn't very big, but there's plenty to do! The culinary tour begins with a stand selling salads and oysters, not to mention the white or rosé wine that goes with them! Their wooden stand on wheels, equipped with a parasol, gives the impression of being at the beach ! The little tour continues by passing by a caravan selling Chinese and Vietnamese specialties ! It smells delicious!

Saint-Cyprien, a market where you can taste specialties

The next stand is 100% Périgord: foie gras, truffle products, some jams and nut sweets are nicely displayed! Fresh eggs wait patiently in their basket before being transformed into a delicious omelet ! Everything is prepared in front of you, titillating your taste buds which have only one desire: to taste everything!!

The other aisle is made up of other food trucks: duck aiguillettes, duck breasts, Sarladaise potatoes, fries ! Fall for the aiguillettes and Sarladaise potatoes! You are served on a paper plate and with cutlery. The ideal is to bring your own in an eco-responsible approach to limit waste and trash.

Next come the Perigord salad stalls (foie gras and candied figs) and cotton candy stalls. Around 8:30 p.m., the accordionist arrives and plays several songs from the musette dance halls. These songs make you want to dance and hum along. They are timeless! The accordionist has no shortage of humor; he goes from table to table playing tunes that are sometimes festive, sometimes romantic ! The couples join in a little waltz and the children clap their hands! A clown also walks through the aisles and performs balloon figures: dogs, swords, flowers, etc.

Further on, crêpes , paella, and Alsatian galettes will delight you. The market gradually transforms into a hive of activity: it's a chance for everyone to get together. Acquaintances, friends, couples—everyone rubs shoulders and sits down at the large tables arranged in rows! The atmosphere is friendly, familial, and above all, joyful !
