Fat is not bad, it is essential and the one that I am going to show you today is loved by everyone: the fat and truffle market of Périgueux ! Duck fat is certified "best fat in the world", it is well known ;)

Meet in Périgueux on Wednesday and Saturday mornings

This market takes place from November to mid-March, every Wednesday and Saturday morning, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., on Place Saint-Louis. It is accompanied, from December onwards, by the truffle market which takes place every Saturday morning, same place, same hours.

At the market au gras, you can find many products: breasts, whole ducks, duck or goose foie gras, confits, carcasses, fat, breasts stuffed with foie gras... The prices are really very attractive and it is ideal for do the first Christmas shopping to get together around a good meal on New Year's Eve.

It’s a bit of a duck lover’s paradise! A very friendly place, where everyone knows each other and shares their recipes. The gras market is ideal for interacting with regional producers. They give you all the tips to properly prepare your duck, the appropriate cooking methods and even some recipes ! Sweet and sour mix or more traditional flavors, everyone chooses their own side ;) Can you already smell the good smells tickling your nostrils ?!

My little advice : take a wide tour of the stalls before buying, this allows you to compare prices, even if they are almost all the same for each producer. For example, count around €50 per kilo for duck breast stuffed with foie gras.

The Gras market is also award-winning. Indeed, on certain dates (see the calendar of the city of Périgueux), you will be able to attend culinary demonstrations , taste numerous products while enjoying the activities as well as the presence of several brotherhoods (truffle, nuts, chestnuts, etc.). Can you imagine the good Périgord flavors ?! I'm licking my lips in advance !!

There will also be truffle markets from December. The duck and truffle festival takes place in January, always on Place Saint-Louis.

You will have understood, the Périgueux gras market is dedicated to gourmets, the curious and lovers of our beautiful region. It's well known that food brings us together and conviviality is always born around a good meal ! In addition, you can buy your side dishes at the market , which takes place just a stone's throw away, on Wednesdays and Saturday mornings !
