      • The Pastels Girault® brand

Founded in 1780, it is the oldest brand of dry pastel in the world that has remained in operation.
Located a stone's throw from the International Centre for Cave Art (Lascaux 4), this craft workshop holds the French state label EPV – Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company), which recognizes the excellence of French craftsmanship. It is also OFG – Origine France Garantie (Guaranteed French Origin) certified, currently the only certification that, along with customs, guarantees French origin.

Recognized as a benchmark in the field of fine arts!

Samples are available to test the shades, texture and quality of the product.

The compositions are organized by theme such as portrait, landscape or even cave art!
Also organized by shades in variations of blues, greens, reds... light ones, dark ones...
And finally, a large number are arranged by contemporary pastel painters.

Palettes can also be custom-made by choosing individual colors.

The dry pastel sticks will be arranged in cardboard cases or in wooden boxes made by a local craftsman.

      • The production is artisanal and family-run ; the know-how has been passed down from generation to generation for two and a half centuries. Today, a small team of four people works on this exceptional craft.

"For us, the first pastel painters were the Cro-Magnons; they used clays and pigments, just like us, to paint on walls or stones. So it's only natural that we should be located in the same town as the famous cave, in Montignac-Lascaux, the origins of art."

And for those who are curious, a window reveals part of the manufacturing process on the side of the building, on Avenue de Lascaux.

      • The art gallery

The shop is complemented by a magnificent gallery space which permanently offers pastel paintings, allowing some to discover the different techniques of dry pastel, others to feast their eyes or to treat themselves to art.

      • Pastel workshops

To complement the experience, several introductory or advanced training courses are suggested every month.
The complete and regularly updated calendar can be found on the Pastels Girault® website and is relayed in the agenda section of the Guide Du Périgord.

      Entry is free

Opening hours are Monday to Friday

From 10:30 am to 7:00 pm and then from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm on Saturdays all year round

I'm eagerly awaiting your 2027 workshops and hope to be able to do one with Aurélio... your new colors are wonderful. And why not create some pastel pencils for us while you're at it? Have a lovely summer everyone! Antoinette

Creating a painting with Girault Pastels is a joy. The softness of the product, the unique colors, and the consistently high quality achieved over decades.

A family business with nearly 250 years of history, part of the elite of French craftsmanship. Their high-quality products are entirely handcrafted by a very small team—I'm truly impressed. I highly recommend them to all pastel enthusiasts, and don't hesitate to visit their workshop; it's very interesting. They also offer numerous workshops throughout the year.
