Discover Lalinde, a charming fortified town

Located between the Bergerac vineyards and the medieval town of Sarlat-la-Canéda, the Catnat Café is situated in the heart of downtown Lalinde.

This fortified town, on the border between the Périgord Noir and the Périgord Pourpre, offers an enchanting setting. Stroll through its narrow streets, enjoy the terraces overlooking the Dordogne River, and discover the charming Lalinde canal with its lock.

Lalinde: A Bastide Town Full of Surprises

Lalinde, though small, holds some delightful surprises. Far from the tourist crowds, it boasts a friendly atmosphere. Older residents share stories about village life, while children play among the tables on the terraces. The bastide town offers all the small shops needed for a successful holiday. Lalinde is an ideal stopover for several days, offering hiking trails and numerous tourist attractions nearby. It's a flower-filled bastide town, proud of its heritage.

      History and Heritage of Lalinde

Founded in 1267 by Henry III Plantagenet, Lalinde is the first English bastide built on the banks of a river. Over the centuries, it has preserved some vestiges of its fortified past, with ramparts to the south and north as well as a complex enclosure.

Once bustling with river trade, Lalinde remains a transit town between Bergerac and Sarlat.

Lalinde, a charming town surrounded by nature

During your visit, explore the remains such as the riverside ramparts, the Bergerac gate, and the Saint-Front gate. The 19th-century market hall in the town center replaced the old 15th-century market hall.

Lalinde is also home to several castles, including one from the 13th century renovated in the 19th century and now privately owned.

A Gourmet Break at Catnat Café

After a day exploring the charms of Lalinde, a break at Catnat Café is a must. Visitors praise the balanced average price and the 4-star rating on Google, reflecting customer satisfaction.

Head to Catnat Café for an authentic culinary experience, at the crossroads of Lalinde's history and the flavors of the Périgord Pourpre.
