At the Moulin de la Rouzique, the guide will retrace with you the entire history of the place and the stages of papermaking through the different rooms by setting in motion different mechanisms of the mill (models, paddle wheel, round shape machine, etc.). It's your turn to come and operate the paddle wheel and discover a skill by making your own sheet of paper!
The mill team's mission is primarily to introduce you to the techniques involved in making handmade paper through tours, demonstrations, and workshops. During event days, visitors are also offered opportunities to meet with associations, artisans, and enthusiasts working on paper-related projects. At the end of your visit, admire a rich collection of watermarks, some of which date back to the Middle Ages.
This mill has been perpetuating the tradition of paper made from hemp, linen, and cotton fibers since the 15th century. At the end of the 19th century, Couze and Saint-Front housed up to 13 paper mills along just a few kilometers of the Couze river.
The Mill is:
► a place for experimentation: We have equipped ourselves with a hydraulic press and a new Dutch stack in order to offer workshops and introductory courses in papermaking.
► a specialist shop: The mill shop is dedicated to the world of paper and creation: range of paper from around the world and rag paper, recycled paper items (stationery, jewelry, decoration), bookstore, creative leisure materials, etc.
