Beaumont-du-Périgord

A few miles after Cadouin, I arrive on the heights of Beaumont-du-Périgord, a medieval bastide full of charm !

The first building I can see is the Saint-Laurent-&-Saint-Front Church whose bell tower overlooks the scenery. Its architecture is simple and refined but beautiful. By getting inside, I can appreciate its true size and see the stained glass windows which decorate the walls. The most impressive ones are in the chancel !!

Just in front of the church, is the village square. Bastides are built according to the same model with a main square surrounded by arcades housing several shops. Under the covered hall, the greengrocers tidy up their last crates of fruits and vegetables, the terraces start filling up and the village life is buzzing ! I really like this architecture, especially these arcades which give all the charm to the square ! It is pleasant to have a drink or a snack while enjoying such a view !

A bit further, I find the door of the village : the Luzier door, one of the only remaining traces of the 12th century fortifications. Few flowerpots dress the railing and the door opens upon a rural horizon !

I then wander in the streets of Beaumont. These streets are all parallel, intersecting at right angles and providing a beautiful skyline each time. The bastide is covered in flowers ; each house is decorated with roses or geraniums, perfectly combining with the yellow, and sometimes white, stones of Beaumont !

The Occitane culture is also very present everywhere, the flags are hung at the balconies or on the restaurants banners. Lift your eyes! Some street alleys take me towards small quarters full of medieval charm : small columns, sculpted doors or some stained glass !

Beaumont is a very pleasant and quiet village, a haven of peace in the countryside but close to the main towns ! I think it is the ideal place to drop your luggage and spend few days ! Beaumont is an attractive and buzzing village especially during summer with many events taking place around the gastronomy of the Perigord ! The Perigord traditions can be found on the façades of each house, the inhabitants are friendly and the atmosphere is sometimes historic, authentic and romantic !

Beaumont has been a beautiful discovery for me ; I hope it will be the same for you !! I recommend this stopover for all the lovers of countryside and the authentic landscapes of the Perigord !
