    • L'Abri du Cap-Blanc, an impressive prehistoric site in Périgord

Get ready to admire a magnificent artistic masterpiece on a listed site, reputed to be one of the largest prehistoric shelters in Europe. Located in Marquay in the Vézère Valley, 20 minutes from Sarlat-la-Canéda, the Abri du Cap-Blanc is both intriguing and impressive.

Take time to contemplate the 13 to 15 meters of frieze sculpted 15,000 years ago, and appreciate the detail, precision and quality of the workmanship. Scraping, polishing and coloring are techniques represented in the form of horses, bison, holes and rings in a rock shelter that was certainly used as a dwelling place, but also as a burial ground.

Excavations and the discovery of tools, bone industry and traces of occupation have established the Paleolithic chronology of this unusual place. Follow in the footsteps of Homo Sapiens and discover the history of the Abri du Cap-Blanc with a fascinating guided tour at any time of year.

A small rock face with bas-relief carvings of horses and other animals. The artwork is impressive and remarkably well preserved.

Outstanding! If you're at all interested in our pre history this is a must. We had Pascal as our guide, can't praise him highly enough - such passion and knowledge about the carvings. So grateful to him for bringing it alive for us today. Photography of the carvings not allowed.
