The Château de la Hierce, a family heritage to visit in Brantôme

Located on the left bank of the Dronne, in Brantôme, nicknamed the Green Venice, the Château de la Hierce can be visited. For more than a century, the Dumoulin de la Plante family has lived in, maintained and passed down this magnificent castle built in the 16th century on a 1km long limestone cliff, dotted with troglodyte shelters.

You might bump into the lord of the manor in a corridor, as Patrick Dumoulin de la Plante still lives there, surrounded by a collection of antique objects and furniture from the 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. In the kitchen, a family heirloom is on display in the form of 18th- and 19th-century copper pots and pans, and a whole range of instruments and utensils representative of the period—a veritable Périgord museum carefully preserved by Patrick Dumoulin de la Plante.

The grand salon displays numerous taxidermied animals, while the dining room showcases a collection of family Limoges porcelain and typical Périgord objects —true works of art for the table, lovingly cared for daily by the owner. A visit to the Château de la Hierce is a delightful step back into the Renaissance era.
