    • Commarque Castle, discovering an exceptional site in the Périgord

Here is a unique castle in the Dordogne that surprises with its height and size, representing a complex medieval complex in the heart of the Beune Valley. Nestled in a verdant setting, it takes you on a journey through time via several historical sites. Plan your visit to this authentic location, 20 minutes from Sarlat and 10 minutes from Les Eyzies, for a fun and educational experience in a remarkable stone fortress.

Commarque Castle, an unmissable visit to a medieval fortified settlement in the Dordogne

Commarque Castle has been in a state of perpetual renovation since its construction began in the 12th century, until the 17th century when it was deserted and left to decay. In 1972, Hubert Commarque purchased this unique site and undertook its rescue through consolidation and restoration work. Now open to the public, Commarque Castle reveals its history through its towers and keeps built atop a cliff in a verdant, natural landscape. At the same time, a prehistoric cave and troglodyte dwellings have been discovered in this legendary valley with its magnificent panoramas. A visit to Commarque Castle is like stepping back in time and enjoying a pleasant stroll in the heart of nature.

The Château de Commarque, a lively site all year round in Les Eyzies

It's impossible to be bored in this incredible fortress ! Open from April to September (remember to check opening times depending on the season), it promises enchanting days for young and old alike, with access to numerous activities. Visits can be self-guided with a booklet, guided, or explained by an audio guide recorded by the famous actor Guillaume Gallienne (English, Spanish, and Dutch versions also available). The choice is yours before continuing with an immersive workshop. Stone carving, creating prehistoric jewelry, crossbow shooting, medieval calligraphy, archery, or the Music of Origins – you're sure to have a great time. Other activities are available by reservation, such as hot air ballooning, escape games, and Mystery & Light Evenings, as well as special events throughout the year. Book your visit; the Château de Commarque is a must-see in the Dordogne.

This is a chateau dramatically maintained in a ruined state. Built above a troglodyte settlement (in itself, very fascinating), Commarque is pure authenticity and breathtaking beauty. You will...
