About

  • English
    • The bell tower of Brantôme Abbey Church dates from the 11th century and is among the oldest bell towers in France. It is unique in that it is an independent structure, built on a 12-meter-high rocky outcrop against which the church is constructed.

Its architecture is characteristic of the Romanesque style that flourished in the Limousin region and is distinguished by the use of gables crowning the bays and by a superposition of four recessed stories. Its apex is capped by a quadrangular stone pyramid.

Guided tours of the cloister, the church and climb to the bell tower are available from February to the end of December. Limited to 18 people per tour.
