You know the Dordogne for its wines, landscapes, truffles, foie gras, and cave paintings, but are you familiar with its beers ? Our region boasts a unique diversity of this beverage, which has been gaining popularity for the past decade and is available in local, authentic versions, brewed with love, original experiments, and expertise. In the world of microbreweries and craft breweries in the Dordogne, you'll meet passionate and fascinating people, so don't hesitate to get in touch with them to visit and taste local beers in the Périgord region (if possible), and ask your local wine merchants for more information.
Location: Vézac (within the Le Trait d'Union complex, opposite the castles of Périgord).
The beers: Brewed with passion just steps from the bar, the beers at "BU" celebrate the Périgord region with a touch of humor and plenty of character. From the Neanderth'Aliens (a light blonde) to the Jack'Who (a powerful triple), the range explores all styles: malty amber with the Sarlat 2048, refreshing wheat beer with the Ragna Bock, or the sharp bitterness of the Glad Oie Tor IPA. Available on tap on their superb terrace or in bottles to take away, these craft beers are even accompanied by unique seasonal recipes, such as the one with Périgord strawberries.
For your information: The brewery offers street food as well as free tours and tastings.
Location : Boulazac Isle Manoire
The beers : The permanent roster consists of three beers: Blonde Pale Ale, Sunrise IPA, and Triple. All are passionately crafted by Alexandre using environmentally conscious artisanal recipes, revealing aromas of grains, exotic fruits, spices, and honey. A few seasonal brews round out Epic Brasserie's beer selection, such as Amber, Brown, and Wheat, depending on the season. These beers are brewed with an eco-responsible approach in collaboration with committed regional partners.
Anecdote : Epic Brasserie offers brewing workshops of 2 to 4 hours open to professionals and individuals.
Location: Limeuil
Beers: La Lutine brewery offers two very original beers, among a range of other more classic (but equally high-quality and delicious) beers: Spirulina beer and Walnut beer. The latter, a typical Périgord beer, pairs wonderfully with cheese or a sweet and savory dish. You can find La Lutine in gourmet shops and local stores around Limeuil and the Vézère Valley.
Location: Bergerac
The beers: La Nove is a brewery set up as a worker cooperative (SCOP) by Béatrice and Emmanuel, based in Bergerac. It's a social and solidarity economy project, so beyond brewing good organic beers, they have strong values behind their hops!
Location: Coly
The beers: French hops, spring water, and nothing else! It's right near a spring that La Chavagn' is now located. Three ranges are available: fruity (chestnut, raspberry...yum!), craft beers (with US and UK flavors), and classic beers (6 beers with new, yet familiar tastes!).
The shop: In the pretty little village of Coly, not far from Saint-Amand-de-Coly (one of the most beautiful villages in France), come and taste and stock up on bottles or rent a keg and a tap for an event.
Location: Saint Saud Lacoussiere
The beers: Mike and Val are English and live in a mill where they've been able to realize their brewing dream. If you like beers with an English character, the kind you find in small country pubs, crisp and smooth, then try the Pale Ale. The Black IPA is a dark beer, with just the right amount of bitterness to balance its rich coffee/cocoa notes...
Location: Hautefort
Beers: At the foot of the magnificent Hautefort castle lies the Chanoine brewery. Completely organic and certified, these beers are available in all colors!

Beers: In the charming town of Sarlat, the land of foie gras, there's also some excellent beer. You'll find it in 33cl, 75cl bottles, and on tap (for rent) in the town's restaurants, directly at the brewery, and in local shops (and supermarkets). Around ten different varieties are available (blonde, white, amber, special occasion beers, Indian pale ale, etc.), all brewed with water from a spring in a nearby village: Estevenie.
Location: Sarrazac
The beers : Five different beers await you. David brews his own recipes in a charming little hamlet. Find him at the Thiviers market on Saturdays and at the brewery. I love their labels; they're easy to recognize and well-designed.

Their range of beers, in all colors, also includes special brews for major events, particularly trail runs and endurance races in the region! This year, the big news is the Black IPA!
Location: Monpazier

Location: Saint-Cyprien
Beers: In Saint-Cyprien, there's a beautiful metal bridge and a lovely weekly market. There's also a great brewery: La Croix du Rat, which offers an Irish-Périgord beer! Stephen is originally from Dublin, and after a long career as a brewer, he settled in Saint-Cyprien. His beer is as natural as possible: GMO-free, kosher, and organic. You can easily recognize this beer by its bright and fun labels. You'll find it in blonde, amber, and a stout version (smooth and strong, with a coffee-chocolate flavor, like the one Stephen used to find in Ireland!). There's also the "dark white," the true Périgord with chestnut, and the one with Périgord honey.
Location: Grignols
The beers: They are all organic, farm-made, and traditional. Mathieu is committed to brewing with grains grown as close as possible to where this smooth and delicate beer is made. Trained in La Rochelle, he uses barley grown on his own farm; it is certified organic, and the range includes amber, wheat, blonde, and brown ales.
Anecdote: Like almost all these breweries, we invite you to go directly to the place of production to buy your bottles but also to meet Mathieu who will passionately explain to you the work of farmer/brewer!
Location: Thiviers, in the Périgord Vert region
The beers: They are organic, made from barley malt and wheat. Particularly sensitive to the quality of the yeasts, they choose liquid yeasts to benefit from a wide range of strains and give varied flavors to the beers.
Anecdote: To add roundness to their "drinks", Father Bitter doesn't hesitate to add oat flakes to the basic recipe!
