    • La Chanteracoise: immersion in the world of France's last artisanal biscuit factory

A journey to the heart of unique expertise

In Saint-Léon-sur-l'Isle and Saint-Germain-du-Salembre, in the Dordogne, La Biscotterie La Chanteracoise opens the doors to a gourmet heritage, witness to a tradition passionately preserved for several decades. Founded in the 1980s by Jean-Pierre Pommier, an artisan baker inspired by the master biscotti makers of the 1950s, this company is today the last artisanal biscotti factory in France.

La Chanteracoise perpetuates a rare expertise in France, with manufacturing methods that have remained unchanged for over 40 years. This consistency, a guarantee of authenticity, makes each rusk, toast, or crouton a true Proust madeleine for lovers of taste and tradition.

An immersive, free visit without reservation

Throughout the year, La Chanteracoise offers a unique visitor experience at its Saint-Léon-sur-l'Isle premises, in its new visitor space, the "Biscothèque". Whether you are with family, friends or a group, immerse yourself in the world of biscotti through a space retracing the history of biscotti, La Chanteracoise and the old biscotti factories, with a projection room showing "The Saga of the Biscotte" and a play area for children.

Access is free and without reservation, self-guided or guided, and ends with a complimentary tasting. The visits also offer moments of exchange with the team, who are happy to share anecdotes and manufacturing secrets. Reservations are required for groups of more than 10 people.

      Artisanal and gourmet products

You can't leave La Chanteracoise without trying its specialties! On site, in the shop adjoining the workshops, you'll find a generous tasting of rusks, toast, croutons, crunchy pastries, and even biscuits.

The products are made with carefully selected ingredients, including locally grown wheat, and contain no preservatives or colorings.

A story of transmission and passion

La Chanteracoise was born from the passion of a young apprentice baker who, in the 1950s, received the precious recipe from his employer. This transmission marked the beginning of an adventure which, in 1960, led to the takeover of a bakery in Saint-Germain-du-Salembre.

In 1980, faced with the growing success of his rusks, Jean-Pierre Pommier founded La Chanteracoise in a former barn. The name pays homage to his native village, Chantérac. The company continues to grow while respecting the foundations of artisanal production, which was passed on in 2005 to Sylvain Boucher, the guarantor of continuity and innovation.

A company of today looking to tomorrow

For over 15 years, La Chanteracoise has continued to grow, while preserving its values: authenticity, demanding quality, and respect for expertise. In 2017, the range was expanded to include dry biscuits (palets and crunchy biscuits) to complement the essential rusks, croutons, and toasts.

Today, nearly 50% of production is certified organic, proof of the company's commitment to a responsible, sustainable approach that respects the expectations of its customers.

      Come and experience La Chanteracoise!

Combining an educational visit, gourmet tasting and human encounter, this is what La Chanteracoise offers you, in the heart of Périgord. A sensory, educational and tasty getaway not to be missed during your visit to the region.

Excellent traditional rusks with a nice variety of other flavors: chocolate, praline, and cereal. Made on-site using time-honored methods (except for the addition of coconut oil). The visit is pleasant, but only to the showroom, as the production workshops are closed for hygiene reasons. Tastings are available. There's also a lovely shop selling regional products. Free parking.
