    • CHAIX DE TIREGAND IN CREYSSE: HISTORIC VINEYARD OF PÉCHARMANT IN PURPLE PÉRIGORD

Château de Tiregand in Creysse, a historic Pécharmant vineyard in the Purple Périgord region. Tours, tastings, award-winning wines, and an authentic winegrowing setting near Bergerac.

A wine estate in the heart of the Purple Périgord

Château de Tiregand, located in Creysse, a few kilometers east of Bergerac, is an emblematic wine estate of the Périgord Pourpre. This family estate extends over 40 hectares of vines within the Pécharmant appellation, one of the oldest and most prestigious wine-growing areas of the Dordogne.

This 17th-century château, listed as a Historic Monument, bears witness to more than eight centuries of history. The vineyard is renowned for the quality of its soils, composed of sand, gravel and ferruginous subsoil, ideal conditions for the production of structured and elegant wines.

      A committed and controlled vineyard

The Château de Tiregand vineyard covers several renowned hillsides: Galinoux, Coutets, Montalbanie and Château-Vieux. The low yield (around 30 hl/ha) allows for a better expression of the Pécharmant terroir. The planting density of 6,300 vines per hectare promotes the quality of the grapes, their maturity and their concentration.

The estate mainly cultivates red grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. A small plot of dry white and Rosette completes the range. The vines, with an average age of 29 years, are worked according to environmentally friendly practices, certified High Environmental Value (HVE). The surrounding forests are also classified by the WWF and the PEFC.

      A property open to discovery

Château de Tiregand offers guided tours of the cellars all year round, by appointment, with various tasting options. Two main experiences are available:

      • Selection Tour : discovery of the property and tasting of three wines, including two Pécharmants and a dry white Bergerac with the possibility of pairing bread and cheese.
      • Privilege Tour : in-depth tour with tasting of five vintages, including the Grand Millésime and the Rosette, with the possibility of bread and cheese pairings.

The welcome takes place in a neat setting, conducive to learning about winemaking, winemaking techniques, and understanding the particularities of Pécharmant.

      Regularly award-winning wines

The wines of Château de Tiregand regularly receive recognition in national competitions:

      • Gold Medal for the Cuvée Grand Millésime 2016 at the Grands Vins de France Competition in Mâcon.
      • Two stars in the 2020 Hachette Guide for this same vintage.
      • Silver and Bronze medals at the Concours Général Agricole de Paris and the Bordeaux Vins d’Aquitaine Competition for several vintages.

These distinctions highlight the qualitative consistency of the field and the relevance of its technical choices.

Things to discover around the Château de Tiregand

The location of the Château de Tiregand in Creysse, less than 10 km from Bergerac, provides easy access to a wide range of tourist, cultural and nature activities.

Visitors can discover Bergerac, a town of art and history, renowned for its old quarters, its museums, its port on the Dordogne and its gourmet markets.

The Tobacco Museum and the Costi Museum are worth a stop, as is the Maison des Vins located in the former Récollets cloister.

The Dordogne, just a few minutes away, offers the opportunity to go on barge trips, canoeing, or even fishing. The banks are also ideal for hiking, particularly between Creysse, Lalinde and Mouleydier.

To the south, the village of Issigeac, popular for its Sunday market, is one of the most beautiful towns in the area. It is attractive for its medieval heritage and artisan workshops. To the east, Monbazillac attracts lovers of sweet white wines and views of the valley. Monbazillac Castle, open to visitors, overlooks the vineyards and offers a glimpse into local history.

Further north, the bastide towns of Lalinde, Beaumont-du-Périgord and Monpazier allow you to explore the Pays des Bastides, dotted with traditional markets and local producers. Honey, goat cheese, Périgord walnuts and artisanal preserves are among the region's iconic products.

Finally, the surrounding forests and hills of the Dordogne Valley offer a setting conducive to walks, cycling tours and picnics in nature. Heritage lovers can also visit sites such as the Château de Lanquais, or the Maison forte de Reignac.

The estate also obtained two stars in the 2020 Hachette Guide for this same vintage, as well as two stars and a favorite in the 2024 Hachette Guide.

I went to the shop, as I do periodically. Excellent welcome, as usual, from the person who runs the place. Very dynamic, pleasant, and versatile, we chatted about many things, as always. The wine is excellent, and the château is well worth a visit.
