Housed in a 15th-century building listed as a Historic Monument, the Sarlat-la-Canéda Truffle Museum offers a unique immersion into the world of the Périgord black truffle. An immersive and interactive journey

The museum is spread over four levels, accessible by an old spiral staircase, which adds to the charm of the place. The tour begins in the attic, under a remarkable framework, evoking the inverted hull of a boat. An introductory projection traces the history of the building, that of the town of Sarlat, and the importance of truffles in the local culture.

Each floor offers an immersive scenography combining 360-degree videos, automatons, ambient sounds, and reconstructions. Visitors discover the different varieties of truffles, research methods using dogs, pigs or flies, as well as conservation and cooking techniques.

A fun and educational experience

The Truffle Museum focuses on a fun discovery experience, accessible to all audiences. Interactive terminals allow you to learn more about truffle cultivation, from the formation of truffle fields to marketing. A sensory tunnel, installed at the heart of the trail, recreates the atmosphere of a Périgord forest to simulate a search for truffles on the ground.

A photo space allows you to immortalize the visit in a themed setting. At the end of the tour, a giant screen in the shape of a kitchen table offers a demonstration of truffle-based recipes, followed by an interactive quiz designed to test the knowledge acquired during the visit.

A gourmet moment to conclude

The tour ends with a tasting of truffle products, offered in one of the museum's rooms. Flavored toast, oils, flavored salts, honey, and even black truffle specialties extend the taste experience. A well-stocked shop offers more than 150 truffle-related products, to take away or as gifts.

The Truffle Museum is open daily, with self-guided or guided tours available. It's an ideal stopover for anyone looking to discover the Périgord region through an iconic product of local gastronomy.

The Périgord Noir, rich in heritage and natural landscapes, offers many opportunities for discovery in addition to a visit to the museum. A few kilometers away, the Dordogne valley offers magnificent hikes or canoe trips at the foot of the limestone cliffs, particularly around La Roque-Gageac, Beynac-et-Cazenac or Castelnaud-la-Chapelle.
