- Come and discover the site of Régourdou, listed as a historical monument, located 800 meters from the Lascaux caves. This authentic site combines prehistory and a live brown bear park. During the guided tour, you will discover a Neanderthal man's burial dating back 90,000 years. With the presentation of the prehistoric site, the museum, and the chasm, you will understand the environment and learn about the cultural behaviors of our distant ancestors. A true immersion in the time of the Neanderthals of the Lascaux hill. In the park, you will observe the brown bear up close and witness its feeding during the visit. An emblematic animal from prehistory to the present day, you will discover its way of life, its link with man and its environmental impact.
  
  During the tour, free games are available: excavation pit and mystery pit. The Régourdou site was the filming location for the movie "The Old Bear and the Child," which retraces the life of Roger Constant, the site's inventor.
  Painting and engraving workshops on stone and wood, and a bear-themed parietal expression wall, are available upon reservation. An exhibition on Neanderthals and the different species of bears in the world is also available.
  This tour will delight both adults and children: an exciting journey back to the Neanderthal era awaits you!

When we arrived we were very kindly greated by a lady a the register. After confirming we were there for a tour, she asked us to wait for 20-ish minutes for the previous tour to finish. We used this time to have a coffee at the cozy tables just outside. Prices for drinks were very reasonable. After finishing our drinks, our guide came over and introduced himself. Very cool dude with perfectly understandable English. He speaks fast, but not too fast. This also makes the tour quick paced, so you don't feel bored. Contents of the museum were interesting and the guide managed to tie everything together with a great explanatory story. He also had lots of extra knowledge on the subject and was happy to answer any questions. After the musuem tour, which in our case was already about an hour, we got to see the bears. They are housed in a well maintained enclosure that looks about the same size per bear as most zoos I've seen. The bears are not forced to come out, but they react when their name is called and are happy to come out of their hole for some apples. As far as I could tell these bears are properly housed and well taken care of. Near the end of the tour, we learned from the guide that the lady who served our drinks is the landlord of the whole domain and a relative of the man who did the original excavation. I thought that was pretty neat. All in all, great tour at fair price. I would recommend a visit if you go see Lascaux.
