    • TWO CASTLES, ONE GREAT HISTORY

Built on a rocky outcrop, the Bourdeilles Castle brings together two exceptional buildings. A 13th century medieval fortress flanked by an impressive keep 32 meters high and an elegant Renaissance dwelling housing one of the richest collection of furniture in Aquitaine. During the holidays, children can explore the castle accompanied by their book of riddles which will be offered to them. During the theatrical nocturnal visits, stroll around the castle like privileged guests in a warm, humorous and unusual atmosphere.

We stopped by on our way to Perigueux and what a pleasant surprise this Chateau was. While we enjoyed the older part of the complex (and I agree that it was a bit disappointing that the tower was closed) it was the newer part and the wonderful rooms and furniture that were amazing. It provides a better idea of what similar rooms might have looked like long ago and really allows one to imagine the time period. It also has wonderful gardens to walk through and perfect views of the river and Mill from the upper floors. Well worth a few hours of your time!

Visited the chateau today, very clean and well organised. Disappointed that the tower was closed. Would have liked an English option on the information boards. Very interesting place, with lots of beautiful furniture and objects on display. Well worth a visit for adults but I think that children would find it boring.

You're in for a treat if you head to this little gem, there's a tiny little village surrounding the castle which in itself is worth a little wonder around with a nice walk along the river. The castle is in 2 parts with a more traditional castle and a renaissance palace alongside with excellent views from all sides and a very helpful audio guide for €3 which can be shared amoung the group. Unfortunately the tower wasn't open when we went so we missed out on that but still very good. If you happen to be in this area I would also recommend the short drive to brantome.
