Spring in the Périgord is a truly beautiful season. Temperatures quickly become mild. From April onwards, the trees burst into leaf, and the first flower buds appear even in March. If you're vacationing in the Dordogne this spring, we suggest places to see, tourist sites to visit, and great ideas for making the most of this bountiful season. Consider choosing well-located holiday accommodation in the Dordogne, allowing you to easily explore the various regions of our department.
In the Périgord region, the trees are mostly deciduous, meaning they fall in autumn and regrow in spring. In winter, the trees are bare, which is rather dreary, and that's why we're so happy to see the first buds appear in spring. Here, gardening begins as early as March, and the spring holidays are the perfect time to get a sneak peek at nature awakening. You'll particularly admire magnificent tulips in every color, and fields of bright yellow rapeseed along the roadsides. Beyond the wild landscape, there are plenty of wonderful gardens to explore; here are a few suggestions!
The gardens of the Château des Milandes in Castelnaud-la-Chapelle also offer a visit to the château of the magnificent, charitable, and famous Josephine Baker. Although the château is open almost year-round, from the end of March onwards, birds of prey shows take place daily, along with activities for children . There is a very pleasant little restaurant where you can have a meal. or a coffee in the sun.
The Panoramic Gardens of Limeuil are located in one of the most beautiful villages in France, of the same name. They seem to perch on the hill upon which the village clings. A breathtaking 360-degree view awaits, a challenge that will be put to the test, as you have to climb to the top of the village. But how pleasant it is amidst the small restaurants and artisans! At the foot of the village, the Vézère River flows into the sea. with the Dordogne. The small pebble beach is very pleasant.
We agree, bamboo is green all year round, yes, but here there are so many species that the walk is more of an educational visit than a simple stroll! The Jardin de Planbuisson in Le Buisson de Cadouin awaits you, with 1.5 hectares of exotic and very pleasant forest. It's a remarkable garden not to be missed!
The Gardens of the Eyrignac Manor are located in Salignac, a beautiful spot to discover between Montignac and Sarlat. Ten hectares of gardens feature topiary, centuries-old boxwood, and giant yew trees. Perfect for a family stroll or a romantic walk along the landscaped botanical trails. A picnic area awaits you on sunny days.
The Water Gardens of Carsac-Aillac are a feast for the eyes. Here, water and water lilies reign supreme. Come and stroll peacefully through a variety of landscapes, each featuring flowing water or small lakes that offer beautiful vistas.
