    • BIRON CASTLE: THE LARGEST CASTLE IN NEW AQUITAINE

Biron Castle, a true jewel of the Périgord region, boasts nearly 1,000 years of history. A listed historical monument, this imposing fortress originated in the Middle Ages and has evolved over the centuries. Owned by the Gontaut-Biron family for eight centuries, the castle has withstood wars, sieges, and artistic transformations. Today, this immense building embodies the rich architectural heritage of the Périgord and continues to fascinate its visitors.

A venue for exhibitions and film shoots

Biron Castle is not only a historical site, but also a venue for art exhibitions by numerous artists. Renowned artists, such as Miró and Calder, have displayed their works in its majestic halls, blending modernity and tradition. Furthermore, with its unique setting, the castle has served as a backdrop for many films, including Brotherhood of the Wolf, Jacquou le Croquant, Fortune de France, and the television program Les Traîtres on M6.

Self-guided or guided tours of the castle

Visitors to Biron Castle can freely wander through the castle's various spaces. With its collection of National Furniture, each room promises a journey through time. Climb to the ramparts to admire the incredible panoramic view of the Périgord region. Guided tours, offered during school holidays, provide a deeper look at the castle's history and secrets, allowing you to better understand its evolution through the ages.

      Workshops during the holidays

During school holidays, the castle offers interactive workshops for children and adults. Whether it's calligraphy lessons, coat of arms creation, or medieval dance demonstrations, these activities are perfect for an immersive family experience!

      Events

      • From New York to Biron:
Thanks to a collaboration between the Dordogne Departmental Council, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and Semitour Périgord, the Périgord Facsimile Workshop has just completed a replica of the Entombment of Christ, created in the 15th century by a master sculptor (whose identity remains unknown). The sculpture has now been returned to its place in the heart of the Biron manor chapel.
      • Holidays in August:
Every summer, the Château de Biron becomes the setting for Les Villégiatures, a festival of music and live performances. During this event, artists from all over Europe perform in an enchanting setting, under the stars and in the heart of this historic monument.
      • The Medieval Festival of Biron in October:
For the Bastides Festival, Biron Castle immerses you in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages. The program includes battles, shows, music, workshops, and food, all for a lively weekend. Costumes are welcome!

Friendly welcome (you don't get the impression that the person there is just there to take your money). Beautiful and very diverse site, visitor's guide downloadable to your phone with interesting explanations. Both the upper and lower villages are also pleasant to see.
