History of La Renaudie Castle

Château La Renaudie is a 35-hectare vineyard estate, all in one block, located in the heart of the Pécharmant appellation. Its south-facing slopes produce a high-quality harvest. As Pécharmant is an appellation known for its characterful red wines, our wines will perfectly complement your regional dishes. The Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago) passes through the middle of our vineyard. We are also listed as a major hiking trail.

Our vineyard was certified HVE 3 (High Environmental Value) in 2018.

History of the Foucauld Family:

"Charles de Foucauld, what is his connection to Château La Renaudie?"
The Foucauld family is one of the oldest families in the Périgord region, with its lineage traced back over a thousand years to 1119. Divided into several branches, one of which, the Foucauld de Malenbert, still exists in the Dordogne. The family was particularly prominent in the Bergerac region through its senior branch, the Foucauld Marquis de Lardimalie, owners of the Château de Bridoire until 1939, and through its junior branch, the Foucauld de Pombriand, who in 1912 acquired the Château de La Renaudie, located in the commune of Lembas, the Foucauld family's historic estate. Father Charles de Foucauld (1858–1916) was descended from this branch. Having entered religious life as a Trappist monk after a military career and then as an explorer of Morocco, Father de Foucauld is best known for his vocation as a hermit in the land of Islam and his search for a very modern "universal brotherhood". He made several visits to his family in the Bergerac region at the Châteaux of Bridoire and La Renaudie.

Proclaimed a Blessed of the Catholic Church in 2005, Charles de Foucauld was canonized on May 15, 2022. To mark this occasion, Château La Renaudie created special Charles de Foucauld back labels. You can find this 2019/2020 Château La Renaudie Tradition Pécharmant in the shop (limited quantities).

Feel free to visit us in our restored old Périgord-style house, which reopened to the public in January 2020. We would be delighted to welcome you and offer you a tasting of our wines. - Opening hours: open all year round, Monday to Friday, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm and from 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
