    • Tiregand wine cellars in Creysse: Historic Pécharmant vineyard in the Périgord Pourpre region

Château de Tiregand in Creysse, a historic Pécharmant vineyard in the Périgord Pourpre region. Tours, tastings, award-winning wines and an authentic winemaking setting near Bergerac.

A vineyard in the heart of the Périgord Pourpre region

Château de Tiregand, located in Creysse, a few kilometers east of Bergerac, is an iconic wine estate in the Périgord Pourpre region. This family estate covers 40 hectares of vineyards within the Pécharmant appellation, one of the oldest and most prestigious wine-growing terroirs in the Dordogne.

This 17th-century château, listed as a historical monument, bears witness to more than eight centuries of history. The vineyard is renowned for the quality of its soils, composed of sand, gravel and ferruginous subsoil, ideal conditions for the production of structured and elegant wines.

A committed and carefully managed vineyard

The Château de Tiregand vineyard covers several renowned hillsides: Les Galinoux, Les Coutets, La Montalbanie, and Château-Vieux. The low yield (approximately 30 hl/ha) allows for a better expression of the Pécharmant terroir. The planting density of 6,300 vines per hectare promotes grape quality, ripeness, and concentration.

The estate primarily cultivates red grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. A small plot of dry white wine and Rosette completes the range. The vines, averaging 29 years old, are cultivated using environmentally friendly practices and are certified High Environmental Value (HVE). The surrounding forests are also classified by the WWF and PEFC.

      A property open to exploration

Château de Tiregand offers guided tours of its cellars year-round, by appointment, with various tasting options. Two main experiences are available:

      • Selection Visit : discovery of the property and tasting of three wines, including two Pécharmants and a dry white Bergerac with the possibility of pairing breads and cheeses.
      • Privilege Visit : in-depth visit with tasting of five vintages, including the Grand Millésime and the Rosette, with the possibility of pairing breads and cheeses.

The welcome takes place in a well-maintained setting, conducive to learning about winemaking, winemaking techniques, and understanding the particularities of Pécharmant.

      Wines that regularly win awards

The wines of Château de Tiregand regularly receive recognition in national competitions:

      • Gold Medal for the Cuvée Grand Millésime 2016 at the Concours des Grands Vins de France in Mâcon.
      • Two stars in the 2020 Hachette Guide for this same vintage.
      • Silver and Bronze medals at the Concours Général Agricole de Paris and at the Concours de Bordeaux Vins d'Aquitaine for several vintages.

These distinctions highlight the consistent quality of the field and the relevance of its technical choices.

Things to discover around Tiregand Castle

The location of Château de Tiregand in Creysse, less than 10 km from Bergerac, allows easy access to a wide range of tourist, cultural and nature activities.

Visitors can discover Bergerac, a city of art and history, renowned for its old quarters, museums, port on the Dordogne and gourmet markets.

The Tobacco Museum and the Costi Museum are worth a stop, as is the Wine House located in the former cloister of the Recollects.

The Dordogne River, just a few minutes away, offers opportunities for barge trips, canoeing, and fishing. The riverbanks are also ideal for hiking, particularly between Creysse, Lalinde, and Mouleydier.

To the south, the village of Issigeac, much loved for its Sunday market, is among the most beautiful villages in the area. It charms visitors with its medieval heritage and artisan workshops. To the east, Monbazillac attracts lovers of sweet white wines and panoramic views of the valley. The Château de Monbazillac, open to the public, overlooks the vineyards and offers a glimpse into local history.

Further north, the fortified towns of Lalinde, Beaumont-du-Périgord, and Monpazier offer the opportunity to explore the Pays des Bastides ( Land of the Bastides), dotted with traditional markets and local producers. Honey, goat cheeses, Périgord walnuts, and artisanal preserves are among the area's emblematic products.

Finally, the surrounding forests and hills of the Dordogne Valley offer an ideal setting for walks, cycling routes, and picnics in nature. Those interested in heritage can also visit sites such as the Château de Lanquais or the fortified house of Reignac.

The estate also received two stars in the 2020 Hachette Guide for this same vintage, as well as two stars and a "coup de cœur" (favorite) in the 2024 Hachette Guide.

We received a very warm welcome. We arrived late, but Côme still opened the doors for us and offered a tasting. We left with some bottles; it's a very good wine, and we'll gladly return. Thank you again for this wonderful discovery.

We arrived after 6:00 PM and the shop was closed. But the person on the property kindly opened the doors for us and took the time to explain everything. We were also able to taste the different wines. Thank you for the warm welcome! 🙏 We were able to buy red and white wine. We will definitely be back, and what wine! 😀 Congratulations on your hard work, and we can't wait to try your hand-harvested wine! ❤️

Wonderful visit! Learning about the history of the Chateau and the wines was a great experience and of course the tasting ! Having learned about them via the Martin Walker books of Bruno chief of police, we were delighted to taste the same of his stories and truly enjoyed them as much as Bruno does! A spot not to miss among the many in this region.
