The Athena Association in Carsac-Aillac, a cultural player rooted in its territory
Promoting access to contemporary art and creation
Based in Carsac-Aillac, in the heart of the Périgord Noir region, the Athéna association has been working since 1995 to promote culture and the visual arts in rural areas. Its mission is to create bridges between contemporary art and diverse audiences, whether art enthusiasts, visitors, or school groups.
Throughout the year, the association develops a rich artistic program, combining art exhibitions and cultural outreach activities. Five artistic events are offered each season, from February to November. Open to the public free of charge, these exhibitions are accessible Monday through Saturday and present works from a variety of disciplines: painting, photography, sculpture, and crafts.
An open and educational cultural activity
Beyond exhibition periods, the Athéna association has implemented a significant educational component. Guided tours and educational projects are organized in partnership with primary schools, middle schools, high schools, and local educational institutions. These initiatives promote the discovery of contemporary art from a young age and encourage exchanges between artists, students, and teachers.
This approach is part of a desire for cultural democratization, by making art accessible to all and strengthening the link between art and territory.
An influence that extends beyond the local level
Over the years, the Athéna cultural association has established itself as a recognized player, both locally and nationally. By hosting professional artists from the contemporary French scene, it contributes to promoting artistic creation and attracting a diverse audience.
Its local roots are based on close partnerships with local authorities, the inter-municipal council, and the departmental cultural agency. Supported by the commitment of its volunteers and the backing of public institutions, the association has been able to sustain its activities and strengthen its role in the cultural landscape of the Pays de Fénelon.
A visual arts workshop to develop creativity
In addition to its exhibition activities, Athéna offers a visual arts workshop open to amateurs wishing to discover or deepen their artistic practice. Accessible to all levels, this learning space encourages experimentation with different artistic techniques in a friendly environment.
This workshop fully contributes to raising awareness of art and showcasing local talent, while encouraging artistic practice in the area.
