Sergeac Towns, Villages and bastides in Sergeac

Sergeac is a small town, nestled between the hill and the Vézère. It is located opposite the meander of Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère. A few kilometers from Montignac-Lascaux, it is a town which is a little off the tourist circuit, because it is not positioned directly on the road between Montignac and Les Eyzies. One more reason to stop there, to quietly discover all its charms! Sergeac is very pleasant and our ancestors had already understood it, we found a lot of fragments of very old objects in the excavation area of the Castel Merle site. Sergeac was also the host of a Templar commandery, evidenced by the presence of the Castle of Cramirat. Stroll through the village, admire its beautiful blond stone houses with slate roofs. Stop for a moment at the edge of the Vézère, there is a pleasant little stopover with a picnic table and a small beach. Then continue along the road to the prehistoric site and the site of Castel Merle, which can be visited and delighted by children. This site has been occupied for 85,000 years! There are 10 rock shelters!

Sergeac is also a good place for hiking, there is also a very beautiful path (the " English path ") that you can take from Castel Merle on the right, which leads (be careful it is steep) in Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère, in front of the bridge. We can see old troglodyte dwellings and the locks of this part of the Vézère, formerly navigable by barges. From Sergeac, you can reach the heights of the hill, then head back to Les Eyzies by a very pretty road, little known! You can also go down to Peyzac-le-Moustier (where La Roque Saint-Christophe is located)
