    • Visit the Keep, Manor House and Gardens of La Salle in Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère

Looking for things to do in Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère, one of France's Most Beautiful Villages, during your holiday in the Dordogne? The Keep, Manor House and Gardens of La Salle invite you to discover an authentic medieval estate, listed as a Historic Monument, where more than eight centuries of history come to life throughout your visit.

Behind its wrought-iron gate lies a remarkable architectural ensemble consisting of a 12th-century keep (the last one still standing in the region), a 15th-century manor house, and elegant ornamental gardens. This former noble residence of the Périgord has preserved the unique atmosphere of a family home that has witnessed the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the centuries that followed.

Enjoy a self-guided visit through the furnished rooms of the manor house and discover an extraordinary cabinet of curiosities filled with rare and fascinating objects. Climb to the attic to explore the permanent exhibition dedicated to the legends of fantastic creatures. The historic kitchen, with its monumental fireplace, stone sink and original rammed-earth floor, offers a glimpse into everyday life in centuries past. In the great hall, period furniture and historic objects allow visitors to imagine the lives of the families who lived here over hundreds of years.

Outside, stroll through the gardens before climbing the keep to reach the former wall walk, where you will enjoy stunning views over Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère and the surrounding valley. Visit the old herbalist's room and the medieval courtroom to discover their fascinating history. During the summer, relax beneath the magnificent shade of the estate's 300-year-old Cedar of Lebanon, an iconic tree cherished by both the property and the village.

The Keep, Manor House and Gardens of La Salle is an ideal visit for families, history lovers and anyone wishing to discover an authentic medieval monument in the heart of the Périgord Noir. The site can be visited independently by both individual visitors and groups.
