Grand Merlhiot truffle estate offers you an experience to discover the Périgord black truffle, an exceptional product that will hold no secrets for you. In an old fortified house from 1751, 3 guest rooms have been completely renovated with elegance and character. Karine and Olivier Leserne welcome you to this arboreal estate in the heart of nature, to present the fruit of their impressive work. The Grand Merlhiot truffle estate currently extends over 13ha of truffle trees, but soon 50 ha will consecrate the estate to the rank of the most prestigious and largest in Périgord.
In an enchanting environment, the Périgordine style building is warm and modern at the same time. Each room is decorated with taste and simplicity, highlighting the sacred character of the stones and exposed beams. The bathrooms are bright and well equipped. Come and relax in the common room with its imposing cantou (through fireplace), on the comfortable armchairs to read or organize your next getaways in the region. The adjoining dining room welcomes you for a delicious and complete breakfast, entirely composed of fresh and local products, with pastries, fresh bread and homemade cakes.
The estate also has a very large heated swimming pool with a swimming lane. Come and sit on the beach that borders it, on a sunbed or under a parasol to relax at the end of the day.
The Grand Merlhiot truffle estate offers weekends or stays on the theme of truffles, with a visit to the truffle field. If the season is right, you can attend a demonstration of digging (flushing out truffles) with Olivier's truffle dogs. A truffle tasting will follow, with explanations on this black gold from Périgord, to appreciate it at its fair value, both tastefully and intellectually! The black truffle is available from mid-December to mid-February, while the summer truffle is harvested from mid-June to mid-August. Karine also offers you a Guest table, where she will prepare truffle-based delicacies. It doesn't take much to sublimate this mushroom which pairs wonderfully with eggs, for example.
Savignac-les-Eglises is a small village ideally placed to enjoy the cultural and landscape riches of Périgord. On one side, the White Périgord, Périgueux and its Saint-Front cathedral, its markets and its historic center. On the other, the Green Périgord is only a few minutes away, with its hiking trails, castles, its Périgord Limousin regional natural park.
