    • Just 20 minutes from Périgueux, in the direction of Bordeaux, Saint-Astier is a dynamic little town that is easy to access, whether by train, by car on the A89, or by bike on the greenway cycle route of the Vallée de l'Isle.

Renowned for its Thursday morning market and for the pure natural lime made from limestone extracted from its huge underground quarries, the town with the large bell tower has stood proudly on the banks of the Isle since the Middle Ages.

A treasure hunt "in the footsteps of Asterius" allows the family to discover the curiosities and historical heritage in a fun way all year round. In summer it is even possible to climb to the top of the bell tower to enjoy the panoramic view of the entire valley, by participating in the free tours organized by the tourist office. Remember to book!

Many walks are available all around: step-by-step sheets are available to explore the surrounding countryside in peace, on foot, on horseback or by mountain bike, on marked trails. You can also opt for a canoe trip on the river, or to explore the greenway cycle route over a hundred kilometers!

And to recharge the batteries after this big breath of fresh air, visit the local producers: Craftsmen and farmers passionate about their profession, will share their passion with you and taste their tasty produce. Enjoy your meal !

We consulted this tourist office which assured us of the reliability of a gîte owner, Mr. Jean-Marc Delmas, who owns the gîtes Mas du Barrat (which we rented) as well as those of Mas de Fayolle, Mas d’Auriac and Mas de Violette, but he has very unscrupulous practices. Having forgotten our checkbook, we made a transfer of €1,000 to him as a deposit, we were very wrong to trust him. Nearly half of this sum was withheld from us for trivial reasons, €47 for an old toaster, which was already well worn and still in working order when we left, 20 hours of cleaning even though we had scrubbed the house before our departure, €40 for the pool liner even though it was not specified anywhere that it was our responsibility to clean it and so on... Even though no inventory of fixtures had been signed upon arrival. Not to mention the questionable electricity (we were shocked several times while using the kitchen) which is extremely dangerous especially for the young children we had with us, the lack of security around the pool, overflowing showers and the lack of VMC in the bathrooms... This is the first time such a mishap has happened to us during a vacation rental! In short, run away from this dishonest owner who will do anything to make money off your back.
