The Community of Communes of Périgord Nontronnais (CCPN), was created on January 1, 2017, following the merger of the Community of Communes of Périgord Vert Nontronnais and the Community of Communes of Haut Périgord.
It groups together 28 communes, with a total surface area of 56,561 ha and over 15,000 inhabitants.

Land of granite and limestone , ponds and rivers, Périgord Nontronnais harbors many treasures.
Located in the heart of the Périgord Limousin Regional Natural Park, it hosts remarkable flora and fauna and exceptional natural sites : Roc Branlant, Saut du Chalard, Trou du Philippou and Arboretum de Montagnac in Saint-Saud Lacoussière.
The 582 km of hiking trails allow the discovery of its preserved environment. Visitors can practice many leisure activities : acrobatic courses in the trees, golf, karting, horse riding, supervised swimming in the ponds of Saint-Estèphe, Saint-Saud and Busserolles.
Each summer, the most daring learn to caving, paddle or abseiling through the Active Summer program (outdoor sports), offered by the Departmental Council of the Dordogne in partnership with the Community of communes of Périgord Nontronnais. Land of traditions and know-how, the Périgord Nontronnais gives pride of place to crafts and professional crafts.
Since 2019, it has been possible to discover Piégut by diving into the captivating universe of Terra Aventura, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine geocaching, through the circuit "Who has not seen Piégut has not seen a market"
Thanks to the use of its resources (iron ore, wood and water), it experienced great industrial activity, especially in the 18th century, and over time saw different sectors develop, from the food industry ( saltings, cheese dairies ...) in the luxury industry (Hermès, CWD saddlery, Chamberland custom shoes ...). It is in this favorable environment that the Nontron knife (from the 17th century) and the “Le Périgord” knife (for around twenty years), official partner of the XV of France, developed. It is possible to discover the stages of the artisanal manufacture of these knives by visiting their workshops. In addition, the “Périgord” cutlery, recently installed at the Moulin de Lapeyre in Saint-Estèphe, offers demonstrations of forging, making of walnut oil, flour, bread and a collection of old tools.
In Varaignes, the Tisserands et de la Charentaise workshop-museum retraces in particular the different stages of the manufacture of authentic Charentaise slippers, designed in the Périgord Nontronnais for dozens of years being near the Charente. Handicrafts are also showcased through events such as the ceramic market of Bussière-Badil, the Fête du Couteau, the Marché des Tisserands or the Rue des Métiers d'Art organized by the Pôle Experimental des Métiers d'Art de Nontron and Périgord Limousin.
Created in 1999, the latter promotes and participates in the development of crafts in Nontron, in Périgord Vert and in the territory of the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park by offering exhibitions, meetings, courses, internships and residences for designers.
Land of gastronomy and good manners, Le Périgord Nontronnais showcases its local products at events such as the Turkey Fair , the Feast of porcini and veal under the mother , the Producers of Countries markets and the famous Piégut market (created in 1642) on Wednesday morning , one of the liveliest and most important markets in Périgord.
