L'Atelier (pARenThèse) Art and plant dyeing workshops and courses in Périgord Vert

Located on the edge of the Périgord Vert and the Charente, L'Atelier (pARenThèse), set up in a ^50m2 stable, offers a peaceful setting conducive to disconnecting.

Open to all, L'Atelier (pARenThèse) is a space dedicated to artistic practices and research focused on Nature. Artistic practice is offered here in the form of workshops, courses, and classes open to everyone, adults and children from 10 years old, beginners or experienced artists.

The workshop is a place of transmission and initiation, of research and discovery ; a place where support and respect for each individual facilitate learning and the expression of creativity.

The workshops and courses are led by Chloé Rodrigo, a graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse and Bordeaux, and a qualified teacher of visual arts. She taught for 14 years in middle and high school and then led art workshops in Bordeaux for 10 years. Also trained in botany and herbalism (ARH/IFH), she explores the richness of dye plants and their applications in the fine arts (inks, screen printing, painting) and textile finishing.

She wants to make L'Atelier (pARenThèse) in Périgord a place for initiation, exchange and discovery around Nature, colours and natural materials.

Nature offers us numerous resources that can be the means of our creations, allowing us to create colors, materials, and tools. It is also the subject and motif of inexhaustible creations.

At L'Atelier (pARenThèse), internships and courses will be offered in three main areas:

1- PAINTING & DRAWING:

Creating is first and foremost about knowing how to observe. Through our workshops, we invite you to explore various techniques to refine your vision, your skills, and bring your ideas to life.

Examples of proposals:

• Variations and diverse creations based on a single color
• Drawing and watercolor painting in front of/within the landscape
• Discovering the ancient technique of Tempera
• Painting under glass

2- DYEING & TEXTILE CREATIONS:

The Workshop (pARenThèse) introduces you to plant-based dyeing, which reveals the colors hidden within plants. This introduction to dyeing can be complemented by exploring various techniques for creating patterns and resists.

Examples of proposals:

• Preparation of natural dye extraction baths followed by dyeing on plant and animal fibers (cotton, linen, wool, silk…)
• Resist and pattern techniques (Shibori, Tie & Dye, Ecoprint…)
• Dyeing and creating patterns with colored pastes

3- NATURE & PLANTS:

Nature is a source of inspiration. We can find in it material to create plant prints or natural colors, or even extract active ingredients for our well-being.

Examples of proposals:

• Plant prints and imprints (Monotypes, Ecoprint, Tataki Zomé, Cyanotypes…)
• Extraction of natural colors followed by the manufacture of plant-based inks and watercolors
• Sustainable harvesting and processing (macerates, tinctures, hydrosols, balms…)

SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES:

The Atelier (pARenThèse) offers various workshops this summer. The workshops take place in Dordogne (24320 Bouteilles-Saint-Sébastien), in a peaceful rural setting and a beautiful ^50m² workshop space.

Each course is open to all and takes place over two days (10am-1pm/2pm-5pm).

"Engraving and embossing inspired by flora and fauna"

Discovery and experimentation workshop around engraving (drypoint and intaglio on Tetra Pak) and around embossing.

"Monotypes and explorations of plant imprints"

Discovery and experimentation workshop around the monotype technique (= unique print) and printing processes, particularly plant-based ones.
