Aubas Towns, Villages and bastides in Aubas

Aubas is a small village in the black Périgord, which is located a few kilometers from Montignac-Lascaux, on the road to Terrasson. Aubas is crossed by the Vézère, in the center of the village, you will also see an old lock, which could have been used in the past when the Vézère was a waterway used by barges. The irony is that between its construction and its period of use, transport by railroad developed and the lock was never used... On the other hand, it was transformed into a mill and then into a dam electric. In Aubas, on the central square of the village there is a superb hundred-year-old plane tree, it is a starting point for walking around the village and on its hillsides. An interpretive trail was also inaugurated in 2019, it allows visitors to walk while benefiting from explanatory panels on how to read the landscape, with historical information, enhanced by audio tracks recorded with the inhabitants of the town. Aubas is also a popular place for sports, hiking but also mountain biking, there are also several marked paths that pass the village.

Discover the Castle of Sauveboeuf, a stone's throw from the village, which can be visited (consult the website) and which hosts a magnificent collection of cut stones and prehistoric artefacts.

When you go up the slopes, you can go to the Escaleyrou viewpoint, which allows you to take in an almost 180-degree view of the valley, with the Vézère below and 2 castles: that of Petite Filolie and that of the Fleunie (which is a hotel).
