Lascaux II, opened in 1983, is the first facsimile, located in Montignac on the hill protected by Unesco, a few meters from the original cave. Discover the exact replica of the axial diverticulum and the hall of the bulls which represents 90% of the paintings of the famous cave. Leaving the light of day for the world of darkness, you will have the privilege of being the only group and the feeling of walking through the original cave. Throughout the visit, the guide will strive to recreate the emotion of discovery and introduce you to the intimate and universal art of Lascaux. NEW FOR 2023: Visit “At the origins”

A storytelling walk will begin near the original cave and will immerse you in the history of this fabulous discovery.

In the light of the grease lamp, the works will unfold and come alive to the rhythm of this flickering flame.

Discovering the Lascaux cave in this very special atmosphere, under the same conditions as our ancestors 21,000 years ago, will prove to be a real return to origins.

First this is the must visit for all, however it has many many issues: Tour groups are too big! We were lucky to always have a good spot to listen to the guide and see everything, yet many people were struggling to hear or see as the space is limited and narrow. Story telling needs major improvement. It was really nice start on telling how caves were found, but after this the whole narrative became "we don't know" "image"... if you have nothing to say talk in general about cave art of europe or world etc... Perhaps add additional track near the original cave now it is like a garbage fence area. On the nice side it was really nice to enter the cave in the dark!! Wow!

Very interesting and worth visiting. Our guide was very nice and gave very nice informations about the site, it's discovery and how understanding the drawings has evolved. Still not known the exact purpose of the cave. The drawings are interesting, the way where made and how many ways they can be interpretated. Good to wear some warmer clothes and going in the cave. Close to the cave's entrance you'll find a souvenir shop and toillets. Big coaches can also park here. The road leading up the hill is a little narrow. Walking among the trees is really nice and peacefull. Very good for school trips.

Lascaux II and IV, in that order. Wonderful storytelling by enthusiastic guides. II is more intimate and “original”. IV provides a broader overview of cave art, its history and the Lascaux area. Worth seeing both in one day broken up with lunch in Montignac, with wine of course.

A very disappointing experience. A large part of the guided tour is outside the cave. Inside the cave you are overloaded with lots of details, many of which are simply assumptions. Pictures are not...

Wow! We weren’t sure what to expect from Lascaux 2 and the “replica” - but decided on this instead of the visitor centre at the bottom of the hill - and glad we did. Jean-Louis was a great and...
