    • The Château de Salignac, Discover Living History in the Heart of a Thousand-Year-Old Castle

Overlooking the valley for nearly a thousand years, Château de Salignac is one of the oldest seigneurial estates in the Périgord Noir region. Between towers, ramparts, historic living quarters and breathtaking views over the valley, the visit reveals the fascinating history of a medieval co-lordship while allowing visitors to explore a monument currently undergoing an extraordinary revival.

Here, heritage is not just something to admire — it is something to experience.

The Château de Salignac, A Medieval Castle Being Brought Back to Life, Near Sarlat

Since 2006, an extensive restoration programme has been gradually returning the castle to its appearance at the end of the 15th century. All restoration work (except torture!) is carried out by the two owners themselves, father and son.

Far from being a ruin, the site now allows visitors to discover numerous reconstructed spaces as well as the different stages of the rebirth of this emblematic monument of the Périgord region.

Salignac Castle: An Immersive Experience for the Whole Family

Château de Salignac offers a rare opportunity to discover a medieval castle in a different way. There are no display cases and no ropes blocking access to every room. Visitors are free to explore the accessible areas, take part in treasure hunts designed for all ages, sit at the lord's table, handle pieces of military equipment and try on medieval costumes. Even the youngest visitors can borrow tabards and wear them throughout their visit!

An immersive atmosphere while discovering a monument still undergoing restoration.

The visit is self-guided thanks to information panels and QR codes explaining the site's history, architecture and restoration.

During the summer, guided tours with the owner or with Lady Azénor are available, as well as night visits, theatrical evenings and the famous Opusculaires : historical re-enactment events that are UNIQUE in France!

Visiting Château de Salignac means discovering what happens behind the scenes of a thousand-year-old monument while enjoying an entertaining and educational experience for all ages.
