    • WELCOME TO BEYNAC CASTLE
THE MOST AUTHENTIC FORTIFIED CASTLE OF PÉRIGORD!

Standing at the top of a vertiginous cliff, dominating the village of Beynac-et-Cazenac, the Beynac Castle is a stone sentinel who has been watching for more than 9 centuries on the Dordogne.

Visiting Beynac means going through 5 centuries of French history, in the footsteps of Richard the Lionheart, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Simon de Montfort and the Hundred Years War.

From the defensive rigor of its 12th century keep to the Renaissance staircase through the very impressive room of the States of the Baronnies of Périgord from the 15th century, the 13th century cuisine and its exceptional barbican, its exceptional state of conservation offers you an unforgettable journey. in the heart of the Middle Ages.

Between heaven and earth, from the top of its 14th century keep, the 152 meters of sheer drop on the Dordogne will offer you an unforgettable view over the magnificent Dordogne valley, panorama classified 3 stars in the Michelin Green Guide.

Visiting Beynac is to experience a dive in total immersion in the heart of history.

Loved this place and the town. Spent 3 days touring the area. Lots of fun. Visited local markets, boat ride up the river, lots of history.

Tiring to climb all the steps from the car parks near the village, but so definitely worth the effort. The château looks impressive from a distance but it is even better once inside. The quality of the renovations is outstanding, and you have almost free access to everything - including the bedroom of Richard the Lionheart. There wasn't a guided tour when we went but there is an "electronic guide", consisting of a small device with a speaker that you carry around with you, and scan the rooms on a map to learn the history - it's in multiple languages too, which is great for foreign visitors. The highlight, however, of the visit for me was the panoramic views of the Dordogne. Simply magnificent!

Beautiful castle, walk around it to discover some beautiful angles. Above the graveyard is a quite field of grass which gives a beautiful view over the castle and the horizon.

This is like a film set! In fact I am sure it has been used as such. The Dordogne valley is stunning and is liberally dotted with castles. The views from the top, perched as it is at the top of a...

It is quite easy to find this chateau. To reach this place, it is much easier if we just go around the village and go up to parking spot next to the chateau. The parking spot is not free though. The...

Unlike, say, Commarque, which is still only partially standing, Beynac is intact and well cared for. This fortified chateau is beautifully situated above the river, with spectacular views, even on to...
