Gardens of the Château des Milandes Remarkable garden and entertainment in the heart of the Périgord Noir

"I have two loves... my country and Paris..." Who has never listened to or hummed this beautiful song by Josephine Baker? Built in the 15th century by the Lords of Caumont, the Château des Milandes was the third love of this great lady of the 20th century for more than thirty years.

Discover the exciting and vibrant life of Josephine Baker, an accomplished and renowned music hall artist, as well as a committed and courageous woman during World War II. Wander through the castle's fifteen rooms, following the artist's commitments.

The Château des Milandes also boasts a remarkable garden. Stroll along the paths of the French garden, and the water features will follow your progress as you explore this open-air theater and lead you to the landscaped park below. Dive into the heart of our exotic bird aviaries by stepping through the door of our immersive aviary, open daily to all. A change of scenery guaranteed!

Another special feature of the Château des Milandes: its display of birds of prey! The history of falconry is told while you admire different species of diurnal and nocturnal birds of prey. You'll appreciate the close proximity with our birds!

Les Milandes also offers plenty of family entertainment! Workshops and activities for young and old allow everyone to immerse themselves in several worlds. Joséphine Baker loved giving, transmitting, and receiving, and it's only natural that the Château des Milandes reflects her beliefs through its activities.

Before, during, or after your discovery of this beautiful world, the brasserie is here to welcome you from April 1st to November 11th, 2025, and during the Christmas holidays. From lunch to afternoon tea and refreshments, come enjoy our terrace overlooking the castle. Snacks are available in summer, and a food truck is available from April to early November.
